For those of you on church security teams

Some churches may be better served by a few “Watchers” like MacEntyre mentioned above. I’d rather have 3 guys you can trust to make mature, calm decisions than a whole team of Tackleberrys !

Your team should never set or enforce Church policy; no matter how much they may want you to. Advise them if they ask, be a resident expert, but policy needs to come from full-time Church staff.

Most Southern Baptist churches that I am familiar with will likely have policy set by the church, and not the staff. I only mention this particular denomination because there are so many of them .

Our team is identified as a Safety Team I believe because of some of the previously mentioned statements. There have been no request for church members to not carry concealed or open carry. I feel sure that we have some members that would be against firearms in God's house.

In all honesty, I was one of those people who would not carry in church. It's just how I was raised. I thought it was disrespectful to Him and showed a lack of trust. I would literally leave my weapon in the car and retrieve it after service. But, probably about 20 years ago now, my Pastor pulled me aside and asked me if would carry in church and said it would make him feel better; I've carried since.

Of course, times have changed. But, I still cringe and get a little mad internally when I see a grown man wearing a hat inside at church... I just breathe deeply and let it go.

Yes they have! Arguably Jewish synagogues have long realised the need for a strong defense against anti-Semitic threats, but by and large churches have been soft targets where a killer could do maximum carnage without resistance. Now days there is a kind of evil that walks the street that has no regard for life, especially the lives of those of faith. John 3:19-21 sums it up.

Load'em cheap, stack'em deep.

Luke 22:36 He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

Lots of different interpretations of this word from Jesus. I sorta prefer to take it at face value.

That's the best advice for the rest of the Book.

2 Chronicles 23:9

"9Then the priest Jehoiada gave the unit commanders King David’s spears and large and small shields that were kept in God’s temple. 10He positioned all the people, each with their weapons drawn, near the altar and the temple, stretching from the south side of the temple to the north side, so as to protect the king. "

I created a thread in the Chapel when I had this passage in the lesson I was teaching my 7th grade class...

[11] And our enemies said, “They will not know or see till we come among them and kill them and stop the work.” [12] At that time the Jews who lived near them came from all directions and said to us ten times, “You must return to us.” [13] So in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in open places, I stationed the people by their clans, with their swords, their spears, and their bows. [14] And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

-Nehemiah Chapter 4

Don’t call the king’s men...defend yourselves. ;)

We just started a safety team. One of the requirements was you cannot carry. So I declined.

We have 3 CMPD officers onsite during services. But there are also several members carrying...probably more than I know about. Gun buster signs on the doors...which I’ve complained about to no avail. I’ve taken several of the staff to the range.

This is a church with 10,000+ members. A couple thousand on Sundays at the location I attend. Can’t imagine the logistics and insurance policy if the safety team became a security team. Lots of doors, lots of square footage. The team has radios with ear buds.

I had a guy trade in a CZ10 that he didnt "need" for a LCP II in .380 today at the shop.... He bought a sticky holster to put it in, you know, "cause I can use it at church". Friday, guy buys a full size Ruger American and an Uncle Mikes shoulder holster for concealed carry at church. *sigh*.

Sooooo.... he’s gonna carry both?

I have an LCPII for “deep concealment” which these days translates to “nearly never”. I like the trigger for what it is compared to the other wee .380’s I’ve owned and sold, but the sights really do suck and as a result I can’t hit the inside of a barn with it. Even just point shooting, so it just stays locked up now.

Discharging that thing in a sanctuary full of people would be a disaster.

We just had Cary PD come in and do a two hour presentation, and they did a great job. In fact the corporal who did the presentation also runs security for a church I am familiar not far from me in Apex/Holly Springs, so that was really helpful.

If you are in Cary I can share his info.
