The first race of the year for The Gun Run will be April 4th in Ellerbe, NC. The last two events have been a blast, come out and test your shooting skills under stress through 6 stages as you move for 5k. Go to www.thegunrun.us for more info.

Scheduled another race for all you South Carolinians. It will be at the Clinton House Plantation on June 13th!

woot! Got my knee back together, I'll be there!

So looking forward to this event! I will be finished up with the trade shows by then and will have some time to attend and run my new gear.

So to add to this match here is my workout and its a modification to the one posted on the FB private group we all love.

Context: I have ran up to Dec 2019 3x a week, a 3 miler, a 2.5 miler and a 5 miler. The 5 miler took me 60 min's on the dot.

Train up for the 4 April match for me.
Running:
Week 1: 2-8 Feb. 4x 30 min runs
Week 2: 10-16 feb 4x 40min runs
Week 3: 18-24 Feb 4x 50min runs
Week 4: 26feb-3March 4x60min runs
Week 5: Mar 8th 90 min run, rest of the week let work outs x3
Week 6: Mar 15th 90 min run, rest of the week let work outs x3
Week 7: Mar 22 90 min run rest, 26 Mar 90 min run
Week 8: rest until the race on Apr 4th

Each week is stretching on non-run days for 30 mins.

That my training plan.

Awesome training plan! Glad to see stretching and a week off at the end. Everyone is welcome to come, you won't be the only walkers.

I need to get off my lazy butt and do this.

Rules state that, "There will be a random draw of prizes from sponsors that will be awarded."

So is that how all the prizes are handed out, or are there some based on time/shooting scores?

I allow the number one overall finisher to pick from the prize table first. Then it is random draw because getting a prize is nice but this sport is about competing against yourself to be better not just how you rank in a random sampling of individuals. The last two events, there were almost enough prizes for everyone who hung around to the end.

No offense taken, sorry if I came off that way, I type direct answers. There are still a couple tickets left if you'd like to come out and give it a go. I've got some fun stuff planned for this go around!

Seriously considering it. May do that today or tomorrow.

Finally signed up! Better late than never. ;)

Any suggestions on running with my rifle? I'd imagine there's got to be a better option than just a sling...

Yes,
Quit being a b--ch!

Lol

Secondly,
A 2point adjustable is the way to go, i know a guy who makes them in case you need a sweet 2 point or a sweet 2n1 sling...

All joking aside,
Last year I used this sling:

It worked great and had no issues with it during the run. I used QD swivels

This year I am going in a different direction and running this 2 point sling

I will tell you that I would not run a single point sling.

Technique on two point sling is how you route it across your body. You can go like this.
Option 1

or like this:
Option 2

FYI
I run in option 2, shoot in option 1.

Don’t use extended CH latch. It will dig into your chest and make you suffer.
I learned this from John Boyette and Gabe D. !
Two guys that sling guns a lot.

Thanks guys! Very helpful. Just wasn’t sure if a standard sling would bounce up and down and if there’s some sort of fix.

How does the scoring work between the shooting and the running?

Id be like a boat anchor for you my friend!

I always pull up the rear.

Still worth the time and effort.

Secondly i have no idea what Ellis rents the facility for, but attendance allows him to pay the bills and we continue to have these events to choose from

Cool. Any other equipment or clothing suggestions from guys who have run it before? Long sleeves vs short? How to store mags? Etc?

be prepared to get wet. As in waist deep crossing a creek wet.

It's a good event, been to the last two. The first one he put on was my first run and gun event. He likes to change things up so be prepared for anything. I just hope someone drops out. I tried to sign up tonight and it's full.

I am running:
dual gun belt (inner/outer)
3x30 AR mags with MagPods installed
4x pistol mags
small gear pouch with a extra box of 9mm in it
Eltro hearing gear
Eye pro

Uniform, long pants, combat shirt, ball cap, marrel shoes

Fantastic advice on slings from JBoyette! I also tend to switch how I carry the rifle throughout the race to avoid chaffing, so sometimes I have it on my back or just carry it in my hands. I get pretty hot when I run so unless it's really cold I wear shorts and a t-shirt. It's pretty sandy too so usually you don't have to worry about your knees getting too scrapped up. Pants help when crawling under things though, which you will do.

Thanks for the list! Very helpful.

Why all the extra ammo? It says we only need 35 rifle and 40 pistol. Am I missing something? Or are those round counts "per stage"?

Those are the rough minimum number of hits to pass the course. I guarantee you will miss a lot more than you think.
Okay, to clarify: if I brought 35 rifle, and 40 pistol and hit with every shot, that's all I need for the whole event?

Also, are these all steel targets? Are we timed with a shot timer, or is the time just considered part of our run time?

The count of 35 and 40 shots is a perfect hit ratio. I triple the base shot count within mag capacity. Secondly, I take RnG events as a training event. If some crazy breaks out I would roll with a 90 count rifle and 68 pistol anyhow.

Their are videos done on this event to observe and gain intel from

Yup if you never missed. Any of didn’t drop a magazine while you ran. It happens.

I did the last two events. Each time I brought 2x the round count and when I counted what I had left at the end I had shot 1.6x the minimum round count for both rifle and pistol. Better to have too much than too little.

I can’t do the one in April but I’m trying to block off time for the one in June.

Very helpful, thanks man! Hope June works out for you.

Just remember, if you get to the end and don’t have enough ammo to finish a stage it’s a big fat 0 points. Better to bring more than you think you’ll need.

His 5 hits on a 50 yard pistol target can eat up a lot of ammo. I hate that target....I’m 0 for 2 on that stage.

I got ya. I should be okay on the pistol, it's the rifle I'm unsure about. I shot mine, oh....2 years ago? We'll see how it goes! Better sight that puppy in before I show up.
Plan on bringing around double the necessary ammo.
