Wuhan, nCV, germs....

well, for the very first time, we tried the Walmart online pick-up option since there was a $10-off a $50 order.
out of 11 items, Walmart was out of two, and 4 required substitutes. these were not "virus" related.
cranberry juice, vinegar, and aluminum foil. of course, maybe they were. i don't know.
i did try to order the following which they said i couldn't :
powdered milk, baby formula, and paper towels.

"The article explains more clearly that the Wuhan version of the virus could have come only from the US because it is what they call a “branch” which could not have been created first because it would have no ‘seed’."

well. Shit like this could have been going on for a while:

That is an interesting article, claiming that the virus must have originated in the US because China has no other strains of this virus from which it could have mutated.
The article claims that people from the US who were infected must have traveled to China.
But isn’t it also possible that the Chinese were experimenting with the virus, derived from one of the existing strains, and that is where it originated? It doesn’t have to be that an infected person traveled over there.
(I have no evidence one way or the other, but neither does that article.)

Yep, right now everything is on the table. I haven’t read anything 100% conclusive. And that might be the way it stays. But it is important to find out how it all got rolling. Wild bat, bad containment practices in a research facility or intentional release. Either way we need to figure it out to prevent the next one.

Another thought after reading that article... if this really did originate in the US and infected people from the US carried it to China, wouldn’t that mean it has been here in the US for months now, and has not been a big deal?
It would be nice if that were true, but there is no way to know until we see what happens - if we get additional outbreaks here

Possibly. Healthy people might have fought it off like the normal flu, and maybe some pf our flu deaths are corona virus. Who knows?

One story I read claimed that people in China for the Military Games spread it. Maybe it wasn’t in the US except for a small group of people that would be in China for an event. That would be a great way to spread it and raise hell.

Or maybe someone ate the wrong bat? :p

I seem to recall early on something about a Canadian giving the original strain of this virus, or one similar to the Chinese. I believe he got arrested for it.

Site seems a bit..suspect.

The narrative seems to conflate many of the events and draws conclusions not supported by and mostly conflicting w/ existing research, the natural epidemiological history of transmission. Its unclear at points (to me quickly reading anyway) whether author is making some of the claims, 'citing' them, of combination of both. I suspect an attempt to verify some of the claims made would fall short. What we have here, is a good plot for suspense thriller movie, not reality.

Our subject matter experts in the US would have determined this many weeks ago if it were the case. Personally, I'm going to lean on the findings of researchers from MIT than some anti government blog, much less the Chinese government. Some pre-peer review publication 'research' that came out of china within first few weeks event was retracted by the authors within a few days. It was amateur hour science. High quality bioinformaticians, virologists and epidemiologists crushed those 'findings' almost immediately. I don't work with viral genomes, but when reading article had some questions regarding basic principles of research and my experience with human genetics, which were soon answered by folks in the subfield.

The info in this article hasn't even been taken seriously enough to garner response from our scientists as of today. will see what unfolds in the near future.

Ft Bragg today though May 11 has restricted all personnel assigned to Bragg or employed on Bragg (military and civilian) to remain within 50 miles of post or their place of residence; all leaves and passes will be local only, within 50 miles.

COVID-19 would be a crappy bio-weapon. Killing off the oldest, weakest members of a population while the productive members may not even recognize they are infected would not be a desirable design. The Spanish Flu would be a far more efficient bio-weapon design, with younger, healthy, productive members of a population being infected in the morning and dead before sunset.

I've even heard the worker's at the Wuhan lab was selling the animals that were used in testing. I really don't know, but here is another theory in the video.

be careful using this map from Johns Hopkins according to: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2020/03/live-coronavirus-map-used-to-spread-malware/

But if you didn’t want to kill the most people, and simply wanted economic disruption it would be a hell of a tool. It would also allow governments to enact measures they couldn’t without the emergency.

Yah we did an online order at Harris Teeter to pick up on our way home from Topsail. Got less than had what we ordered. They were out of

- Bananas
- Blueberries
- Baby carrots
- Quaker Oats
- Fage yogurt
- Sliced sandwich meat
- Hummis

Will try Food Lion here in Hillsborough tomorrow.

since we (maybe you, too) are stuck at home, this is an interesting article:
https://medium.com/@ra.hobday/coron...from-the-1918-influenza-pandemic-509151dc8065

a quote to get you started:
Put simply, medics found that severely ill flu patients nursed outdoors recovered better than those treated indoors.
A combination of fresh air and sunlight seems to have prevented deaths among patients; and infections among medical staff.
There is scientific support for this. Research shows that outdoor air is a natural disinfectant.
Fresh air can kill the flu virus and other harmful germs.
Equally, sunlight is germicidal and there is now evidence it can kill the flu virus.

we're guessing UV rays did the work.
and Pollen Season is upon us.

Cash is encrusted with germs; go electronic!
electronic money is not real money. neither is paper money, but many people don't recognize that.
Just ask for you cash from the bank to be placed in an envelope. then boil it whole. money can take it.

Today I stopped by Academy Sports in GSO. No real reason, had a little time to kill, why not.
Id say 95% of the folks in the store were in the gun section.
MANY empty rifle areas with price tags still up (so there WAS something there recently).
ONE box of 556
about a dozen (total) boxes of 9mm
Many boxes of shotgun shells gone, but still about half left

On the way in a guy was leaving with a pistol, by the time I got back there there were three more folks doing paperwork.

Really, the other areas were empty, which is unusual.

Next I popped over to Sportsman's Warehouse
LOADS of ammo.
PALLETS of 556, many many boxes of 9mm of varying brand
Due to time, and lack of much interest, was only in there a few minutes, maybe five. But I was surprised to see that within half a mile one place is selling out while another has stacks of it.
Prices seemed higher too

Academy has stepped into the Walmart lowest price in stock place for Ammo. People are flocking there.

I think I heard that Academy Sports distribution center in Tenn was damaged by the tornado.

I had not heard that but it could be. It seems like a lot of stuff is available online shipped to your home but the stores are out or showing limited availability. There are still some ok deals on 9mm on their site around $.19 a round for brass a little less for alum.

Dow is plunging again. Dow 2250 and trading has been halted.

PMs are taking a hit.

Silver is below $13...hasn't been that low in the last 10 years.

Good time to buy.

Would be if you can find it. Everywhere I have checked is either sold out (which is often code word for "I'm not selling at this price.") or the the premiums have increased such that the price per ounce is the same or higher than it was before the fall. US Mint has announced they are out of silver eagles and are not taking orders at this time.

I have been looking forward to buying at $14 or below again, but it ain't happening today.

Yeah...

Been checking around and most places are letting it go for $7-$8 over spot.

That ain't no deal.

ahhh makes sense. I don’t see the analytics and not manually going through 15 threads to hear you preach about how we are “soooooo much more than a firearms forummmmm”. for basement requests y’all should say “ we are soooooo much more than a gaggle of dark web degenerates in the dungeon of a firearms forum” :)
