Not a lot more to say about the topic, just seem to recall putting them out in Feb but I forgot this year.

A tick tube is just a tube stuffed with pemethrin-soaked material. It's a targeted way to kill ticks by strategically placing them.

Personally, I spread Bug-B-Gon instead.

Thanks. My first thought was treated tube socks. Been spraying my clothes with permethin before turkey season for many years now and never got a tick nor chiggers while hunting.

Last year I resorted to spraying the woods borders and part of the back yard with permethrin. They were bad here.

I’m going to treat the yard too.

Bee careful. Permethrin will kill worms, bees that land on anything sprayed and any other beneficial bugs.
Ticks hate short grass, they’ll dehydrate, that’s why they’ll be found under leaves around the edge of the yard/woods.

Sorry, not going to treat it with Permethrin, that seems a bit overkill for the grass. I use some generic spray from a big box store, trazadine or something like that.

Now and August is the time. I assembled and placed ~75 tick tubes yesterday, cost ~$3. I placed them 5-10 yards into the woods from the yard and about 30’ apart. Next I’m treating the food plot area.
From their website,
  • The best time to apply is in late-April and late-July before young ticks begin feeding

I think the idea is that mice, squirrels, rabbits, and others will use the treated cotton in their nesting areas. I think you can still put them out.
