How in the world does this guy, not only get to stay out of jail. He gets his freakin job back and back pay. He was rewarded for cowering behind his car for more than 10 minutes and doesn't even break radio silence. Allowing how many kids to be killed while he did nothing, man I hope his thoughts haunt him at night. I hope he his tormented by his actions. There is no justice in this country.

That’s absolutely ridiculous. Per the article, the judge found the spineless deputy’s constitutional rights were violated when he was fired without due process... wtf???! I must have missed the amendment that says I am entitled to a court hearing before my employer can fire me for sucking at my job when children’s lives are in the line.

I sincerely hope this is all just so that he can get his retirement and that he won’t actually be tasked with protecting the public for a single day. Still crappy, but at least he won’t be jeopardizing anymore innocent lives.

Sorry, but you are misled about his role- it's not about protecting the public, it's enforcing the law.
Significant difference.

Cops are not super hero's. He was put to the test and found lacking. Hopefully they can find something he is good at like taking names or answering the phone. He has to live with his actions. I don't think he should have a gun, but that's bureaucracy for you. As someone said, i am sure the Union said he was not required to go into the building.

We can argue semantics all day or you can replace my term with your own, my point still holds true. For everyone’s sake, this guy doesn’t deserve a badge.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I'm thinking he failed to enforce a few laws, namely those against, say, murder or violating "gun free zone".

Normally, yes. With dead kids involved, I’m not so sure.

When the defense of machismo is on the line, then I would say they normally would be. But as you mention, when it comes to cowardice under fire contributing to the deaths of multiple children, then they will probably sing a different tune.

Like they said, due process. Hopefully they will now start the termination procedure the right way.

And how did they get that $137,000 in pay number? I doubt the high Sheriff makes that much.

Oh, and there's no doubt in my mind that he will be shunned.

I would venture a guess that he is also of the mindset that only LEO's should be able to own weapons or be armed.

Agreed- and I wasn't trying to argue with @Jerzsubbie either, the coward shouldn't be in a leo position. But like @J R Green stated, maybe the employer went about the dismissal incorrectly- but the POS shouldn't get any money out of the decision.

The original question was "How does this happen?"

It happens through the careful application of time. Wait till the furor dies down, wait some more while new "crises" occupy the public's attention, poke around in media stories to verify no-one's mentioned it lately, then try and slip it in under the radar.

Serve and protect, he did just that, served and protected his own ass at the cost of children’s lifes

We had a local guy that worked for Santee Cooper that sued SC over being fired and won his job back. He won because his attorney argued that he Should have been fired Months Before they fired him. Since they didn't follow the handbook and fired him when they should have, they had to take him back and give him his back pay. He lasted 6 weeks that time. Fired Him Right By The Book.

Is he a prostitute? HOW THE FK did this guy make $137,000 in 2018?
I read earlier the news story regarding a no-knock raid in Louisville- 2 of the 3 officers involved make over 100k/year. So I guess it depends on the agency?

Yes it does depend on the agency. My son who is LEO in Colorado makes way more than he would if he was in NC.

I tried to hire a man recently that was in Denver, Co. He was making $90K and I'm sure it was hard for him to understand that he would have the same lifestyle here on $60K

And Conway is a whole lot less cost of living than Charlotte. Even considering cost of living, my son makes way more than he would if he worked for CMPD.

Write him up, give him his hearing and then fire him. I am not LEO but would not want him next to me on a call.

Most likely overtime, working security in uniform, some departments get paid by businesses for officers and they get paid by the department.
