B8D8E84B-C87E-4522-B2AD-7A45F54BC789.jpeg I’m officially a old man:). I’ve begged my wife for over 30 years to ride with me. She said if I bought a trike she would at least give it a try. She ride with me at first and hopefully I can get her in her own. 95 with 129k. Price was right though. For those who don’t know Trikes are dang expensive.

Awesome! I hope you have found something that you and the Mrs. can enjoy together. I and the better half love getting out on my bike and just riding, no particular destination in mind, just seeing where we end up. We have stumbled across some of the best eating joints one could hope for and had a blast while doing it. Post up some pictures of you all riding and some of the places you have found which may be of interest to us. A couple of sites that you may enjoy is Midway Cafe in Cartridge, NC, and Millie's Pizza in Milton, NC.

I haven't ridden the Dragon in four years. For several years some friends and I would head up once a year and ride the dragon along with several other good roads. I always enjoyed those rides, we found some interesting roads and eats in that area!

It's not what you ride, it's that you ride,'n you dont quit riding 'cos you get old, you get old 'cos you quit riding.

Those Honda sixes are supposed to be hell for stout. I'm a HD guy, but could be talked into picking up a Valkyrie for the right price.

Not always. I stopped riding because I was injured and now I don't trust myself with 600lbs of bike. Guess I need to sell it. :(:(:(

Congrats on the new ride. My wife rides with me as much as time and our schedule allows. I’ve been trying to get her on her own but she says she enjoys the time together, I think it’s because she enjoys the naps on the back.

My wife never rode on any bike I ever owned. She hated the sight of a motorcycle at my house and when my son bought a rode bike she cussed me like a sailor.

Hope you enjoy. My wife and I have so many memories of trips in different parts of the country. When we went to Maine we took 2 lane as much as possible. When we took it to Iowa we took back roads. We love just getting out and riding with no idea of how far we will go that day. Might be 400 miles or 40 miles. Depends on what we stumble across. I had a cruiser that she wasn’t real comfortable on for long periods of time so I upgraded to a 98 Goldwing SE. I have since moved on to a 2010 Goldwing that is great. She does take quite a few naps back there.

True that. I'd wanted a bagger, but at almost 900lbs, was more than I wanted to deal with. My ~700lb Super Glide is as much as I'm comfortable with.

Please explain some more; I've never ridden a trike, but would get one so the wife would ride too.
With a motorcycle its virtually effortless to get the bike to go through turns and your weight always stays center line with the bikes mass in straight line or turns except when your riding hard and start to hang off to help keep the bike a little more vertical to help from dragging hard parts. The trike wants to plow through the turns. It takes considerable effort to turn the bike. Also the
Bike doesn’t lean and your weight want to take you off the bike.
To someone who has never ridden they would think much of. After 45 years of riding on and off start wIt’s dirt bikes and mostly SS and ST bikes the trike seems unnatural. Hope this helps. Plus it doesn’t stop well:)

It makes perfect sense, thanks !! I've always been skeptical, but I'm getting older now. The wife won't ride on two wheels at all, just looking for a compromise. Sounds like they're good for an interstate ride, but not everyday stuff.
I had no clue till I looked into them just how much more expensive trikes are !!! Let's just say that kinda ended my interest...

We are in the same boat. In the last 33 yrs of being together she rode on a motorcycle with me once and was terrified. Don’t get me wrong. They are still manageable. I do agree they are more of a Hwy bike that something you would want on a mountain rd. The more I ride the more natural it will seem. As for price it gets stupid. Really thankful we found one by accident and got a really good deal on knowing what I know know.

At a Myrtle Beach Bike Rally several years ago Boss Hoss was doing demo rides. I wanted to ride one, just because. I was intimidated by the size and width of the 2 wheel versions and opted to demo a trike. And, they would only allow passengers on the trikes, too.

I had never ridden a trike before and I was surprised at just how much you had to drive it. When I rode bikes, I always rode in the left side of my lane. It was so unnatural for me to run in the center of the lane with the trike. This was my one and only experience of riding a trike. Like @Majicmike said, if I had never ridden a 2 wheel bike before, I wouldn't have known the difference.

Trikes are expensive because the conversion kits are expensive, and there's not a whole lot of installers that know what they're doing with them. So you gotta find one of the experts somewhere, maybe far away from you.
Goldwing Roadriders Association used to do big rally's here called Wings over the Smokies. There'd be 8000 GW's descend on the area and you'd see every kind of GW you can imagine. Some of the Trikes were extremely elaborate with all the bling and paint. The Valkyrie Trikes were very cool as it's easy to hop them up with some intake work and 6 into 6 pipes, which have a great sound too. Wheelies and rolling burnouts..no problem.
There's several groups of brand riders that are heavy into the snobbery. Harley riders lead the pack here, but BMW guys and Goldwing guys are almost as bad. You can even have the same bike and they still hate you. Gawd. Lighten up Francis. You're a guest here, act like one..and 2..get the hell out of my way with your king & queen seat and slow-ass Parkway pace.

My buddy in Daytona has a Boss Hoss, and I've ridden it several times. 1200lbs. It's fine in a straight line, so Florida is a good state to have one. But any corners and you'd better be paying attention. You'd think they'd be the fastest bike on the road, but they're far from it. They got all kinds of motor (obviously) but the suspension and handling are hideous. They've gotten better with newer models, but when a 1000cc R1 eats their lunch everywhere, including the drag strip, makes you wonder why the attraction outside of the monster truck appeal which admittedly, does have a cool factor to it.

Good post ! That explains a lot. I’d love to see wheelies on these in person !!

sorry to hijack your thread, MM ! Enjoy your scoot and riding with the Missus !!!!!

I always wonder what you would do on a 3 wheeler, be it a trike, Slingshot or Can Am, when encountering road debris. In a car, you can straddle a rock or dead animal in the road. On a bike you can go to either side. On a trike, you definitely can't straddle it and depending on oncoming traffic you may not be able to go around it.

This is the longest I have ever been without a bike.... As we are approaching retirement age my wife "doesn't want me to die" sigh... We have had bikes, many. I don't know, she puts up with a lot from me so... I keep telling her I'm worth more to her dead than alive...

Congrats on the trike!!

Never rode a trike - but I do ride a three-wheeler.

Now if you want to talk about weird handling, you can't get weirder than a sidecar outfit. I don't drive a sidecar because it's easy, I do it because it's hard. You have to pay attention to everything all the time, you have to think way ahead, and if you want to get anywhere you hang off more than you do on a sport bike. You can't stop, turn or accelerate as well as a solo bike; it pulls right when you accelerate and pulls left when you brake; you compensate. I have two wheelers, but I like this outfit because it keeps me on my toes, keeps the old gray matter sharp. Plus I can carry a week's worth of groceries

Also, they steer like trike with outside wheel on ground, but countersteer like a bike with it off the ground!
I tried one and it was funner than I expected.

Curious what the rear brake setup is?
Seems like these would be all about the rear brakes, unlike a motorcycle.

Drums,, solid rear axle just like a older car. I know it doesn’t stop great.
