What habits (good OR bad) have you kept after leaving the military?

Most of the prior service members I know are in deep denial about the hazing they experienced while they were in. "It's not hazing, it's tradition!" Sure, if I punch you in the face once it's assault, but if I do it every day then it's tradition and I have to keep doing it.

It's not even that I object to mistreatment of junior enlisted, just be honest and call it what it is: hazing.

We had some pretty brutal initiation for entry into certain clubs for sure!

Crew Chief Qualifications, Combat Crew Qualifications as examples. I know Navy Dolphins and several.others. Many have changed due to multi-year roles too. I will limit my honesty because that is part of why I retired when I did too!

Attention to detail is my daily pet peave. After reading this thread there are many other things I still do that I didn’t realize. Eating fast I can’t break, walking in step with person beside me, head always on a swivel and hate crowds. No gun zones piss me off to no end. Pussification of the American male gives me no hope for future generations. I’m only 34...a millennial, barely.

Folks like YOU give us old farts reason for hope!I

Don't quit trying.

Not sleep for more than two to three hours at a time.

Checking the house, inside, or outside on my cameras, greeting my pit bulls when I get up.

Yup I am a butt head, but it works for me.

I too struggle with lack of empathy and ability to cope with stupidity in this society we now live in. Like others, no tolerance for bs.

We called them "Irish Pennants".

I don't know what that means, but probably racist against Irish having worn out clothes...
