Nothing too wild here...

But I do have a 16.5” Beowulf AR. Always a crowd pleaser with the tank brake on it. Also had the opportunity to run it on a full auto lower once. Not sure I want to do it again, but glad I got the chance along with a couple other members here.

Keep thinking I want to grab the 12” upper with the pepper brake one day.

Reactions: Me.
I’ve got the 16” with the pepper brake, it ain’t for sissys! About a dozen shots is all I’m good for anymore. I’m shooting 335 grn bullets but they make a 600 grn that’s a monster!

I need a tank brake but no more than I shoot it I haven’t thought too much about it.

No doubt it would be considered a Big Bore, at .500 caliber. At the velocity it is capable of, I am sure it is far more effective with the lighter .500 caliber bullets, one of the best choices would be the 300 Hornady Flex at or around 1900-1950 fps. This bullet has good terminal properties at this velocity, and up to a max of around 2400 fps before it starts to come apart..........

It’s going to be my first rifle round to reload whenever I get around do it...for two reasons:
1. Simple straight-wall cartridge
2. Gotta be cheaper to reload than buy factory since I’ve been trying to collect my brass

I’ll keep the 300 Hornady Flex in mind. Any powder suggestions? I bought one with Beo in mind, and can’t remember exactly what it was since I haven’t used it, yet.

I bought mine about 5-6 years ago. All they had for ammo then was the Alexander stuff and I bought up a good bit of it. I still don’t think I’ve shot over a couple boxes through that beast!

@Michael458

Just to make sure, is this what you’re talking about? I see them listed as 500 S&W pistol projectiles...but figured that’s about all a Beowulf is in a different platform.

Any suggestion(s) for a FMJ “plinking” projectile?

LilGun would be at the top of the list with this one. WW 296 would work as well.

Yes, the 300 gr FTX from Hornady, good all around bullet for this cartridge capacity, pointy nose, so it works great in the AR. Terminally viable up to 2400 fps starting velocity and 25 yard impacts. I am looking to see if I have any terminals on this at 1900-2000 fps, but I am sure it would be superb at these velocities.

As for cheap bullets to play with, you might check out the various Rainier or Berry Plated bullets, I think many years ago I tried a few, accuracy was crap however, so never revisited those. Maybe try a small lot of them, 50-100, not very expensive and see how the accuracy is. No need to push them too fast either....Plinking and playing, if they shoot half decent is all they are good for.

Another excellent bullet that would work great with this, probably little less velocity would be the Remington 385 Core Loc. I am not sure if this is still available or not these days. Back many years ago you could buy them 500 to a box very reasonable, and these were actually bonded. They are rather pointy, so would load and feed perfectly, and in this cartridge probably go at or around 1700 fps, and that is a good velocity.

I have had several friends shoot deer/pigs with the 300 Hornady and the Remington bullets with extreme success. Believe me, .500 makes a difference....

About to build a second one.

10.5” barrel on this one.

No real good reason why, other than “just because”.

Maybe have "Thumper" engraved on it somewhere.

"Big Fiddy"
"Five Ohh" with some blue lights or something around it.
"Just Because"

I’ve got all I want! Don’t need another one.

Upper came with a flash hider. I thought about swapping the tank brake over to it, but it doesn’t have any ports on the top. Instead, I ordered a Heartbreaker brake to replace it. I want to know just how concussive I can get it.

The HB does have three holes in the top:

Unlike the tank brake:

But I was flip-flopping right up until I placed the order, trying to decide between the HB and this one:

You need a templar customs mce break. Bob is the king of beowulf if you need anything.
Just curious...when is the last time you dealt with him? I searched after you posted that, found one place that listed them but said “contact us for availability”. I sent them an email and they replied:

None left.

Check with T-Box Barrels as they own the rights to manufacture those now. https://www.tbox-barrels.com/product-category/barrels/

I found a video with somebody shooting one and it had a link to the Templar website, and it’s dead. Just curious if it’s been awhile and maybe he’s not doing it any more?

Talked to him today. He just joined here as well. @Bob Reynolds

I remember a few years ago Blackwater had 50 of these for sale. Each with 2 mags for $250. Uppers only of course but they sold out in just a coupla days.

The MCE was designed specifically for the 50 BW, to keep the muzzle neutral and to reduce felt recoil and the licensed the manufacturing of the MCE to T-Box, great bunch of guys, The video is probably one I shot in WV mountains shooting a 12.5 inch .50 Beowulf in full auto; its a thrill at 908 rounds per minute.

Enjoy!
