From a DailyMail UK site which I won't post due to their popups:

Mose Triplett fought for both the Confederate and Union Armies during the Civil War of 1861- 1865

In 1930, at the age of 83, his much-younger wife gave birth to daughter Irene

Irene qualified for a Civil War pension as the daughter of a veteran; and began receiving the government money in the mid-1950s

In a 2014 article with The Washington Post, Irene revealed she was receiving a monthly check of $73.13
She passed away Sunday at the age of 90 due to complications following surgery; she was the last US citizen to be receiving a Civil War pension.

$73/mo?? What’s the point? I’m not rich by any means and would take any money someone wants to mail me, but that just sounds kind of silly given the basis for the payment.

Moses served first in the Confederate 53rd North Carolina Infantry Regiment than transferred to the 26th North Carolina Infantry Regiment under Col. Henry Burgwyn, Jr. a VMI graduate. He went missing from a hospital and ended up enlisting in the Union 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry known as "Kirk's Raiders" on August 1, 1864. He was discarded on April 9, 1865. He received a pension from the federal government which also made his wife and dependent daughter, Irene, eligible for one.

Here is his daughters information

roughly $61,390 over the 70 years she collected. Not too terrible

Very interesting, didnt know that kids could receive a pension from their father's service.
Thanks for posting this, pretty neat that someone still had a very real connection to the Civil War after 150+ years
Heck, it's cool that someone was alive last week that was fathered by a Civil War vet!

Yep! The last one is right, you file a claim to the VA and that’s usually what you get...the DIC!
