Anyone know of a good AC repair shot near Clemmons. Blowing hot and the guy at Mock says there is a computer that needs to be reprogrammed. 2003 Chevy 1500. I didn't know that there was a computer controlling the AC on this truck.

Um no. That shop should now be avoided.

Is the ac system blowing HOT air, like the heater is on, or just not getting cold?

Last week I would turn the AC on and it would run for about five minutes then magically switch over to heat. Now, it blows hot air all the time even when on cool. I really thin it is the AC clutch by my mechanical foo on this truck is really lacking.

The temp blend door actuator goes/going/ has gone bad. The default setting is for heat. You need the actuator replaced. Then, if it doesnt auto relearn, a scan tool is required to do a door sweep setting.

Thanks Mike, I'm going to order one and see if I can do it. If it doesn't relearn I'll need somebody with a scanner.

Which side is going? My 04 Suburban has separate blend door actuators for the passenger and driver sides and (I think) a different one for the rear.

Drivers side isn't bad to get to.

Passenger side, not so much.... Pack a lunch as you've pretty much got to disassemble the dash.

There is also a reset procedure for these that can (at least temporarily) unstick it. Likely it will default back to heat shortly though.

I'll see if I can dig up a link.

This worked for mine but I know it's on borrowed time.

Plus one on the blend door actuator. Easy fix. Just did one on my 2005 sierra.

Replaced one on a 2003 Silverado I had a couple of years ago. If memory serves there are two actuators. One near the bottom of the console that controls the driver side and one at the top of the dash that controls the passenger side. With the ac on mine was blowing hot air on the passenger side. Top of the dash comes out. Was a pain to get to the screws to take it out. Thank God my wife has small hands and was able to get the screws started on the new one.

Mike, If it has a vacuum line leak do most vehicles default to defrost?

Before you spend on parts to replace, is the compressor running and cycling? You may be low on refrigerant and the low cutoff is preventing the compressor from running. You could have a bad coil in the clutch assembly. You can jumper the low cutoff switch to do a quick test so the compressor will run.

That would make the air “not cool/cold”. Ambient temp out of vents.
This one is like the heater has been turned on

Yeah that's what I'm going to have to do with the 04 Suburban soon. Thus far, after resetting it as long as I leave the system on auto and don't futz about with dual climate zones it behaves itself. But I know that's a short lived solution.

I did the reset of the air door trick on my 03 Burb. That didn't do it. However, 24oz of R134A and 3oz of PAG oil with seal leak stopper did and now she's blowing cold again.

FWIW Tractor Supply sells 12oz cans of R134A for $5.99

A 2003 Suburban with F&R air holds 48oz of refrigerant and 11oz of oil. I replaced half of it, so seals must've dried out while she was sitting for a few months

Well I talked to Eddie and he gave me a good one to call. There's a shop about two miles from there that said it would take and hour and a half of six hours and a half. He has done me well in the past but if he can't do this I'm taking it to Eddie's folks. Mine does not have driver and passenger side controls, both sides get the same. He also wants to check everything else out first which made me feel better. He knows that I tend expect the worst in all my vehicles. This is a stripped down 2003 that was a fleet model without all the frills. Don't even have cruise control or electric windows.:(

I took my f250 there when ford said it needed a blower resistor , that was 10 hours in ford book,(the whole dash and heat/ac box had to come out as the resistor was between the box and firewall) 2 hours later and a blower motor and I was out for less than $300

Those resistors are tough. Big bulky. I replaced my Ford E250 blower motor at 220,000 miles. I have 245,000 miles. The engine will have to blow for me to stop driving it.

Dang truck :mad::mad::mad::mad: Ran around town all morning and the AC never switched to hot. Going take it in tomorrow and tell them to rip the whole thing out until they find what's going on. I need to take the oil cap off my truck and put it on a new truck AAARRRGGGHHH.
