So I've got this fancy USW 320 with holster but the holster is friction fit. Unfortunately the only holster maker for this is from B&T and they don't make an active retention holster for the 320 model yet. I'm trying to think of ideas to get some active retention in my life.
  • Idea 1, custom kydex press and integrate one of these into it
  • Idea 2, modify my existing holster to accept a thumb break
  • Idea 3, never take my hand off the gun
  • Idea 4, figure out a design I can 3D print with some PETG/ABS to attach to my existing holster
  • Idea 5, figure out how to modify it for an index finger release that locks on the stock instead of trigger guard
Any other ideas to consider that don't include getting a different gun?

First, if you don’t NEED active retention, you don’t need active retention. What will the holster be used for?

Modifying existing holsters does not take into account some of the design issues needed for active retention.

Learning how to roll your own is fun but don’t expect to save any real money.

It's mostly (95%) for a fun project but if I was to open carry this would be the gun I'd do it with. I don't think I'd want open carry anything in the public without some kind of active retention. Are there any good resources for info on making your own with active retention? I tried googling it and none of what I could find had that option.

Not much I can think of on retention. Try going to youtube and looking for some of the parts. Maybe someone has done a video. Probably some threads out there on thumb breaks, maybe try leatherworker.net.

Not sure if I have this right:
You want a rentention holster that allows that frame with a folding brace? Is that correct?

Brace folds to front of frame, no?

Safariland GLS profit holsters fit a wide range of pistols.
Not sure if this works but might be worth a look.
