My search comes up with all kinds of words of wisdom about roses but I need one thing clarified and be done. The plants are three foot high 6 months in the ground plants and are getting the leaves eaten like crazy after looking seriously nice. Bottom section is completely brown dead levels. Holes in the upper leaves.

Tell me the exact manufacturer and product to kill whatever is feasting on my plants with how to apply it. Thank you.

Bifenthrin

permethrin

diatomaceous earth

any of those should do it. They’re gonna lay eggs also probably. You need to break the life cycle. You can get the first two at tractor supply. Not sure about the last.
Spray now, then spray again in 5 days

diatomaceous earth

It’s most likely Japanese Beatles

Thanks guys.

Can I add a little surfactant to the chemicals to promote adhesion without damaging the leaves? I hear if I snip off the prior flowerings it promotes blooming earlier again. Is there any truth to this? I’m not a garden person but ripped out every single item non tree about a year ago and all the new plants look great. These knockouts are planted along the sidewalk in grass. Should I do anything around the ground of the plants like pine needles, mulch, or leave it alone.

Good to know, I have 3 double knock outs in my front bed and they too are looking a little rough but not as bad as OP describes. I have a ton of diatomaceous earth, got a 10lb bag on amazon, don’t think I’ll ever use it all haha!

My yard guy explained to me to look at the leaf if there are holes in the middle you have caterpillars, outside in is beetles and aphids underneath. The 3 in 1 by bayer will last for years because you buy a concentrate and sprayer for 15.00. It also treats fungicide and fertilizes. If you have a sprayer you can swing by my house and I'll mix you some up next time your in Troutman.

Thanks. And thanks for the offer but I will pick up what you suggested at Home Depot tomorrow to keep here.

I treated the front yard with Tenacity Herbicide this Spring and it was all they said it was. Best money I have spent on grass maintenance in a lifetime. My back yard is a mix of junk and will take undercutting and adding topsoil to get grass of any quality. The dirt is from many feet down during construction. The soil is useless for lawns.

Pool supply place for diatomaceous earth.

I just ordered and received a 40# bag of DE from Tractor Supply...

Mom's been gardening for 50 years and only uses Sevendust. She routinely gets compliments on her roses.
I can see where that would work. If you play one of their CDs close by, on repeat, it'll keep everything run off.

Sprayed the Bayer 3 in 1 this morning with surfactant added. Also spot sprayed side yard for grab grass. I feel like I’m employed by a landscape company maintaining weed and pest control. Now I have moles tunneling my new lush grass. Never ends in the war for beauty. Make it nice and they will come.

I have a large row of knockout roses on the back of my porch that were overrun with aphids this year. In the past I would use Seven mixed up in a spray bottle and coat them. Problem with Seven is it kills bees also and I like to try and keep them around with a garden growing this year. Sprinkled a bunch of diatomaceous earth around and that took care of the aphids. DE can still be harmful to bees from what I hear but not nearly as deadly as Seven.
