I’m helping a friend’s family go through his reloading stuff since he passed away in 2019. There is a handful of this one type of brass that I can’t identify.
Here is a pic of it on the right beside a piece of 7.7 Jap. It has the same dimensions, other than the neck is longer than the 7.7 jap.
I saw online that some people form 30-06 brass into 7.7 jap and then trim the neck. Could these be cases that were formed but have not yet had the neck trimmed?
A pic of the headstamp is included.
Thanks!

I remember reading on the old Jouster forum that folks would form 7.7 brass from 30-06. The method, as you stated, was to run the 30-06 brass through a forming die, trim & clean up the neck, then load/fireform the brass in the rifle.

If the brass is suspect, you can always get new 7.7 brass from Grafs. Not the cheapest, but it removes all doubt.
