Local hockey team was having an event and well, my son and I like hockey so we took the family to eat.

Man, after months of eating at home I have come some conclusions:

I, basically, hate people. Too noisy, drunk young folk, the poor looser at the bar trying his hardest, watching him strike out, the young lady's dressed like hookers...etc. Why is it again the restaurant bar can be open but not an actual bar? It appeared to be the same to me.

The music was too loud to carry conversation.

It's expensive.

The food....ugh....never realized until we stopped going out due to the lockdown but man, the food...when I got home I felt like if I could vomit I would have felt better. I seriously don't like eating out....it really isn't good as home cooked.

The wait was ridiculous...45 minutes for a table.....that was beside the bar, outside, in the heat and then the rain.....

Parking sucks.

Felt like I was on high alert after not being around that many people in awhile.

So....like I told the wife, "I never realized just how good her cooking was".

I have rules about eating out with the family. We go before the rush, so no waiting. Sports bars during sports seasons are too damn loud. Certain areas of my county are full of young families who love to bring their screaming kids. ixnay on that.

So you must choose wisely.

I also choose the places that have my favorite beer on tap, which ain’t many. If they DO have my favorite beer on tap, it covers a multitude of sins.

Sorta like a big wax cup of beer at Chucky Cheese with your own screaming kids. It’s amazing what you can tolerate after a couple of those.

Eh, maybe it depends on where you go and WHEN you go there.
Ate out twice today (only the 3rd time this whole week), and had to wait at lunch for about 15 minutes. No wait the other times/places.
This was at 12:10 today.

Yes it can add up quickly, but I still enjoy it from time to time

Do tell...what is your favorite beer?

Highland Gaelic Ale. Brewed in Asheville for twenty five years.
And if you fart in someone’s general direction... They. Will. Know. It.

My wife ordered a slice of sugar free cheesecake from the Factory with curbside, she arrived and parked in curb side but never got the text that it was ready, she was waiting about an hour (playing word games with her family on phone). Called the factory and they finally picked up and kid says to come inside, or he can transfer her call. So she goes inside and waited another 30 min to get her order that was sitting on a rack with four other orders. NUTS.

Been out to eat several times recently and have noticed a definite drop in food quality and attitude, especially at the larger chains like Texas Roadhouse and Longhorn. Conversely, our local Burger King has improved their service.

Good stuff. Hard to find on tap in a restaurant around here.

They all have this habit now of rotating their craft beers, and it’s always something else too weird for words, like hemp beer that tastes water soaked in rope.

and you had nothing to do with this? I usually drive to the restaurant where my wife’s gonna pick up food and pay the takeout people $20 to give my wife the runaround for a good hour :)

clean my guns in peace.

We went out the other night to Yamato in Apex. The food was good, as it always is, but it was spotless, sterile. The dining room was almost empty. We were given Styrofoam cups and plastic utensils. Our waitress was masked and gloved like she was about to perform surgery. It just isn't fun like this.

Whitey had better start getting his s*** together. Most of our restaurants in the area still won't allow you to come in and sit down anywhere, even though it's allowed.
One member in the biz here alluded to it; not worth opening the dine-in for half capacity. The customer just isn't worth it.

The Mexicans feel otherwise.
Si! Open inside come in we love you!
And they're going overboard. Extra good service and lots of food.

Guess who's parking lots are full and who's are empty?

Gonna be interesting watching whitey complain about how 'business never did return to normal'.
Yeah. Wonder why.

Oh I remember now. We weren't worth it.

Same thing going on here. Week before last we went to one of the local Mexican places. The menu was a copy of their regular menus, no condiments on the table, servers wearing masks and gloves. When the server brought our drinks he also brought a few packets of salt and pepper and told us that he would bring more if we wanted. Otherwise, it was business as usual. The food was excellent and the service was great. I left him a nice tip.

But, I'm saving myself for the local BBQ/Brisket place to open up their dining room. I only got to eat there once back in December and just about the time we got here is when things turned bad. They have done a very strong take out business but it just ain't the same. I think the dining room will open this coming week. I'm ready!!

We have eaten at home except for the Mexican place and a couple of times we went through the drive through at Whataburger. We went to Jack in the Box once. Once. To call it horrible would be giving them a compliment.

I'm going to sit and eat inside an actual dining establishment for the first time in many months on Monday. (With a biker!)
Mission BBQ, can't wait.....this might be the highlight of next week!

just got Mexican last night. Delicious. Not many other cuisines that appreciate meat and cheese as much, or more, than me. Restaurant was doing pretty well. I been tipping at 25% lately as an extra “thank you”. I assume they are still paid at waiting staff wage (not true minimum) but are stuck with a lot more admin work given all the sanitizing (tables, benches, sauces, shakers, menus, etc) between every patron.

There is one at NMB but I didn't make it there before I left. If you're there at noon, they stop everything for the national anthem.

There are so few (~1) restaurants I care to waste my time and money on. We dine out for convenience, not for the food.

We had (have) a couple of restaurants that we like. We used to grab quite a bit out for the convenience. We would stretch it though - portions are generally large enough that my wife and I would either split a meal, or each get our own thing, eat half or a third of it, and have more meals from the leftovers. I'm not working in a field (most days) any more, so I don't see how folks eat the entire thing from lots of these entrees in one sitting anyway. I'd be big as a house.

Nowadays though, we might get something curbside only once every two weeks or more. We are cooking more. Spice packets are da bomb. We made chicken biryani for lunch today, and we'll be eating two more meals off of it. Saving some $$, even using decent ingredients.

Yes, they do! I've stood and sung with everyone several times! I'll be there Monday by 11 am....love that place.

Yes, we have created an extra meal or two from leftovers.

Buy whole spices then roast/grind/mix your own blends. This is significantly less expensive. There are recipes all over the interwebs.

I've been out a couple of times. Mostly to our regular places where they know us. Food and service has been good.

Sounds like you chose poorly.
Assuming you were addressing me, you can successfully pick a new beer by the name and picture on the tap handle?

Nope, was addressing OP’s choice of restaurant. And no I cannot.

Went to our favorite Mexican place last night. It was good as usual. Getting ready to head to the Cowfish right now.

I miss places like that (old job, expense account, taking customers to lunch). But at this point, I would probably pay with my own money to get some of their goodness.

"Why is it again the restaurant bar can be open but not an actual bar?"

NC law says there are no bars.
there are restaurants which serve alcohol
for consumption in/on the premises.
(of course, there are private bars)
it was a compromise to get liquor-by-the-drink
passed by both Houses and signed by the Governor
without the old "brown-bagging" rules and the even
older "blue laws" getting in the way of the individual
counties voting for their preference which led to the
"brunch bill" for Sunday morning sales due to the
NFL team in Charlotte.

Saturday the wife and I went to Sakura in moyock nc had the all you can eat lunch special I had a house salad a chicken katsu, a cooked beautiful roll Hibachi shrimp and steak with Japanese fried rice and veggies Today daughter took me to El Potrillo also in Moyock and I had the Texas fajitas (shrimp steak and chicken with Mexican rice and refried beans bot places were excellent
