Did You Go Shooting Today

WTH? Is that a scope on that thing?!?!?
Not really, that's the monitor. There is a Lightweight Video Sight mount on the left top of the gun. Has a 3x day optic, 3x night optic, built in laser rangefinder, ballistic computer, thermometer, barometric sensor and rail to mount a thermal sight. Once boresighted, can place that rifled grenade on a man sized target at 1500m (almost a mile) with 90% hit ratio. Also capable of firing airburst ammo (Mk19 isn't) Monitor swung to right, PAS-13 Thermal mounted on top and gunner is using leaf iron sights in pic below.

1500m, that MOFO would be great for squirrels and such.

You have ALL the fun toys to play with, stay safe.

I did some shooting at Battery Oaks today. Some .45s were tried out, mine got shot a little, and the 9mm. Got to shoot a rifle with a red dot across the pond and managed to hit some targets. That was a lot of fun.

I did find out that a 1911 in .45 with a shorter barrel than I have on mine would be great to carry!

I was able to take out the new-to-me S&W 5946 yesterday and get some trigger time.

This was an older NYPD trade-in gun and is in really good shape overall. There is some mild scuffing of the grips and holster wear, but otherwise she looks and runs great. As expected, the night sights are long dead but that's not a big deal as it will likely only be a range gun. As expected, the gun was dirty, dirty, dirty.

The trigger pull is quite smooth and I'd estimate that it's in the 9-10# range. I'm sure that all the internals are just polished smooth over the years, but the pull reminds me the very smooth DA pull from my old S&W model 15 revolver... nothing like the DA pull from a modern DA/SA pistol. One thing that I did notice with the DAO trigger on this gun was the reset. I did notice that there area two very distinct reset points after firing. When releasing the trigger you hit the first reset "click" but you can't pull the trigger to the rear. You have to release the trigger to reach the second reset "click" before firing. A little different than one is used to, but not difficult to overcome.

I shot a variety of 115gr factory and RNL reloads without any malfunctions. The all-steel construction soaks up the recoil and it was easy to keep the majority of shots on steel at 35yds.

Overall, I'm glad that I went with the 5946 over the 5906. This one seems just a bit "cooler" to me with the DAO look

forgot to add - Since this was an NYPD gun, no magazine disconnect either!

Went to PDHSC for the first time since the shutdown and ammo shortage. Realized that I should have been doing some dry fire practice...had a few fliers from jerking the trigger...

jealous of everyone that can shoot in their backyard!

Take it from me...

There’s nothing better than being able to jerk the trigger without leaving home. o_O

I'm sick of not shooting often enough because of ammo prices. So ...

Cut brush on the berm, zeroed the Ar-10 (SA Saint Victor) over the irons, and started working on which flavor of ammo the AR-15 (SA Saint Edge) likes best. All I know at this point is that it doesn't like M855 from the irons or the red dot.

A work in progress ...

Put another 100 or so 115 gr +p gold dots through the hellcat today. They're spicy. Got a trigger finger friction blister and a pinched blood blister from the extended mag. Gotta work on my grip strength more but it was much more comfortable this go around. Moved my shooting thumb under my support hand and it was a lot less flippy. If I ever have to shoot this one handed offhand again I'll just go ahead and die.

Went this morning and shot one of my Hi Point (stop laughing) 995TS carbines at steel, paper and cans from 25, 50 and 100 yards. Lot of fun but soooooo dang humid.

Shot an Ed Brown Evo 9, Sig P320 Legion, SA Ronin, and M&p 2.0 9 Performance Center with optic.

the Sig shot the tightest groups at 15 yards. It is pretty amazing.

then the rain chased me off.

Sig group at 15 yds. And I am not a "Sig guy”
Pasters are from a previous range session

Shot the action steel match up at Watauga yesterday. Saw rain on the forecast, so the Beretta 92X went up with me instead of a revolver.

It was a great opportunity to work on acceptable sight picture, mindful shot calling (using flash sight pictures for feedback instead of listening for steel), and pushing target-focused shooting out at range.

The 92X has a “high contrast” painted front sight that’s nothing more than a concave painted dot. With the rain and overcast conditions, it looked like a plain black blade. I will be replacing it with a fiber optic.

One bay late in the match had really good lighting conditions for that cheesy painted sight. I shot a variation of Showdown with a full target focus reasonably clean, with a couple shot-for-shot strings, thanks to the bright front sight in good light.

The match was well run, and the crowd was a great, even in the rainy weather.

Went to PHA today.
Took my coworker who just bought his first gun, a 12 gauge, I dont remember the brand, nothing too special, something cheap from WM, a pump.
Anyway, taught him how to 'use' it, how it functions etc
Then showed him around the range, shot my MP15-22, Glock 17, and HK sbr

About 90 minutes or so, great time
