Why are people so unreliable? Been wanting an AK so I was browsing Armslist and found one I was ready to buy. Guy was very responsive when I first contacted him. Discuss that he's firm on price (no biggie), discussed throwing in 6 mags for more money, I tell him I'll take it and that I can meet late Saturday or anytime Sunday and give him my number for easier communication. No response... Send follow up email asking if deal was still on, no response....

In conclusion, people suck.

Might be one of them scammers that just want personal info to sell.

How much were you offering for the AK? If he was too low, it's a good chance it was a scammer.

I had a family member who wanted to unload some stuff on Armslist to pay some bills. I just made them give me a bottom dollar price and bought it all to keep them away from that BS. It appears that I am the family pawnshop.

Ha ha ha! Did you pm him: "What's your bottom dollar?" :D

But seriously, good you could 1) help and 2) keep it in the family.

Blood looks after blood. I’d kill for them, and other days I’d kill them.

Top dollar. $950 for a new zastava zpap m70 with 6 Yugo mags
Well, heck. I'm in the mountains now, but if you're still looking Monday, I can pull my wasr out of the safe, if you're interested. :)

Last time I posted a pistol on there I immediately got

1) Some out of state college kid in Raleigh wanting me to hand deliver a pistol to him four hours away. When I wouldn't he was like "gUeSs U mUsT nOt wAnT tO SeLl It".

2) A local guy who uses his full name for his email address. He claimed he had "used all his permits this month" but was totally legal to own a pistol.
I plugged his name into the DOC offenders website and a bunch of drug charges popped up.
I asked him if his middle name was "so and so", and he responded with something like "good job detective" .

Armslist is a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Yeah I'm not really a fan but besides this forum and the canuk forum idk where else to shop that's for sale locally.

That's one thing I love about these forums. All but 2 have been a stand up guys... or gals. Cordial, helpful, and willing to work with me on meetup. I'm so thankful for this forum!

I think the AK market will calm down soon. I think it's better to just know what you want, and go for that. For example, are you wanting:
1.) Classic looking AK
2.) Tacticool AK
3.) Collector AK of some kind, like a specific country

And then there's variations in caliber, and stock type, and pistol/rifle. I'd use this time to figure out what you want, and narrow it down there.

I move a few items on armslist from time to time and for the most part, have had great luck and met some really great people (That's actually where I met @Geezer }. Every now and then I get one of the scammers who are obviously foreign and trying to sound American. the latest ploy is to pretend they are military and just got deployed from my area so forth and so on. They will actually send you a copy of an ffl they plan to use, but if you contact the ffl they have no clue who the buyer is and how they got a copy of their ffl. If I have time, I like to string them along for a couple of days just wasting their time and then I hit them hard calling them every name in the book and most of the time they will respond back saying they understand I'm scared of a scammer but they assure me they are not. By then I'm tired of playing the game and ask them how much their mother gets paid to have sex with goats and other animals on camera. That usually stops the emails quick. I did have one tell me I was a fool and would die and go to hell. My girlfriend says one day I'm going to wake up with a crowd of foreigners in the yard with machetes wanting to cut me head off!!!

#1 is really all I'm looking for. I think they're cool rifles with a lot of history. I shot one a few years back and it was awesome. Just wanting something with traditional wood furniture, slant brake, no optics or anything fancy, that I can plink with from time to time.

Precisely why I stay off ArmsList. :D

But seriously folks, if you value CFF, how ‘bout supporting it with a membership?

There's gun classifieds on gowilkes.com, but they may be worse than armslist. Same couple codgers bumping the same overpriced crap every day. If something reasonable does get posted, it's immediately bought and reposted for a more ridiculous number.
And people are even more flighty on there.

Edit:Here's an AK for you. :D
Standard SAR1 with the added bonus of having the rear site JB Welded on. All for the low low price of $1200!

Yeah, gowilkes is pretty bad! Sold a rifle there years ago, dude wouldnt meet halfway but insisted I go to his house, and wanted me to show him how to reload. Did a quick tutorial then took the money and ran.

Never again with the gowilkes.

I felt like that was alright considering they're 900 new plus shipping and transfer.
It's a reasonable price, now I guess. But the limiting factor will be the receiver. There are two receivers that do weird things:
Chinese
Yugo
Both need special stocks, so you're not going to do well with aftermarket compatibility. Personally, I'd go with a more standardized AK, like a Wasr or the PSA-E. If I were buying one now, I'd just get put on the notification list for this one:
https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ak-e-red-wood-triangle-side-folding-rifle.html

It's got the folding stock hardware already, if you like that. It's got a 90 degree gas block(sure, the original akm uses 45degree, but this just looks cool).
Then I'd get some stock sets to play around with, to try different looks. I like the hungarian and east german.
Hungarian:
The blonde wood, and the lines on the pistol grip and handguard I just find neat.

East German:
The plastic and bakelite gives it an Art Deco look I like.

@Jeppo ... my email address here is different from my email address on PayPal. Is that ever an issue with payment? Shouldn't be, but...

I'm good to go for another year... or until I remember to renew...lol

I don’t expect its an issue. You’ve got the Supporting Member banner now. Thanks for re-upping.

@Butter is the arbitrator of all things money. ;)

"Why are people so unreliable?"

don't know why.
i have not had that problem, so far.
i have bought and sold using CFF and AL.
just sold a pistol last week to an AL contact.
contact showed up on time, all laws followed,
except we SHOOK HANDS (don't tell!).
