Would you patronize this shop again

I agree with all the above posts. The fact that you called ahead is adding insult onto injury. I would name the company in this thread and send him an email including the link to this thread. Let him see just how much it’s cost him. There are some of us who will still not buy from Cheaper Than Dirt,

That's why people drive 2-3 hours to do business with Midsouth. Phillip will sell you anything in that store and probably the building too. I've been impressed lately with the rush and panic that they take the time to wait on everyone and try to supply them with what they came in wanting. He hasn't gouged anyone with ammo and his gun prices have remained basically the same throughout. There is a reason he has been there for many many years. Customer Service will bring you repeat business. And you don't last long without repeat business and referrals.

As I’ve pointed out before, I believe most LGS owners are gun people who understand nothing about customer service, marketing and biness.

I've had that opinion pretty much since the word go. THEN they turn around and hire other "gun guys" that have ZERO personality or any perceptible social skills. I can make that comment after having spent most of my adult life in sales and management. I can honestly say that I've run in to 2, maybe 3 "sales" people in an LGS that I would hire. One is female and works at a range I frequent. I'd poach her in a heartbeat and show her how to make some real money if I was still active in the car business. I used to think that I could train anyone with a heartbeat and average intelligence to sell a car. Not so sure now that I've been shopping in some LGS's around here. Their basic technique is hand you the gun you want to see and then stand there and stare at you like Cletus the slack jawed yokel character from The Simpsons. Probably why a large part of my little collection have come from BigBox stores or online so I only have to go and fill out 4473 and not get frustrated by the poor service. I shop and read a lot before I buy a gun, and try to shoot one beforehand off the rental rack at a range, so if I want it and they have it at a decent price, I buy it. All these awesome places you guys talk about are nowhere near where I live. I'm branching out though. Took a ride to Outdoor Limited the other day to pick up some .38 spcl that I didn't want to wait a week or more for. Unfortunately couldn't check out the store, but the process was smooth. I'll probably go back when the store is open. Not a bad ride with my doggie co-pilot

To the OP....screw them, who is it so we can avoid them?

Not naming the business bothers me more than how he was treated.

Agreed. Unless you're being a Karen and just making something out of nothing, if they treat you like crap you should let others know.

Maybe he's having a bad day, maybe his dog just died, who knows. If we hear it one time from one person, well everyone had bad days. If we hear it multiple times from multiple people... we can draw our own conclusions.

The other Gun shop in Fuquay was rude as hell, the young ladies were bothered to stop their conversation and ring me up. Ok, bad day, I gave them another chance, this time the sales person was rude as hell. I never went back. Even if FG&G was out of stock on the item I was looking for. I even had to pass that store on the way to FG&G and I still refused to give them one red cent. That shop is now out of business..... I do hold a grudge....

Yeah, I would tell that guy where he could put his precious sights and spend my money elsewhere. No excuse for that. I have been in FG&G after closing on numerous occasions to finish up a transaction and nobody was rushing me.

A few weeks back I was looking for Night sights for my G26, FG&G said they would sell them to me but could not install them for me because of some decree by King Cooper. I came back a couple weeks later, purchased them and they installed them.

Sorry, that struck a nerve... :)

Ok, felt this to be obligatory:

That's pure unbelievable bs... On the nose, as said above new firearms sales for brick and mortar is typically almost nil on profits. Used stuff and accessories are where useable profit is to be had... Then "smiffin" is also profitable.....

Won't sell you a product with a good margin. Won't sell you the labor to install for a good margin. Because they are too busy? BS.

Plus the fact that you called ahead to verify both product and service were available that day?

If they are marking up new firearms to such an amount that it takes over the usual high margin items. Screw them. If they are so ignorant about business they allowed themselves to lose money. Screw them. If they are that horrid at CS. Screw them. Hell if a customer wants to buy a nickel lollipop for their kid and that's all. Hoping the register for a minute. Business 101 is happy customers are repeat customers.

For this case especially, screw them. Arrogant, rude, dishonest or all together. I'd never darken their door and would share who they were with my community. So they wouldn't have to deal with the same BS....

Unjustified. You called ahead, made a deal and were denied upon arrival. If this was a CFF deal i think the seller would be banned. My time and money are just as valuable anyone else's. It usually takes less time to be nice than to bicker with someone. Pretty sure i could find somewhere else to spend my money.

Yeap, prices weren’t that bad. You described 95% of the sales staff. Here’s my story. A day or 2 after Sandy Hook I decided I might to pick up a few more AK mags. As I was walking up to SG the guy looked me in the face and locked the door. They closed at 5:30 and it was 5:25. I went home by the old FFG ( still downtown) at the time. I parked on the street a little bit away from them and walked to the door. As soon as I seen the sign that said closed I just stop and walked away. Appx 5:35. A guy stuck his head head and asked what I was looking and I told him just a couple AK mags. He told me to come on in that they were still checking out people. Since that moment I have bought appx 45-50 guns from them. Gonna buy something else if the lines ever get short to get in.

Yep I have been waiting a week maybe longer to pick up a transfer at FG . Every time I drive by the line is out the door. Don't know about y'all but I ain't standing in line.when there is no line I will get it and a couple of other things I want.

I drive by multiple times a day. There’s always a few early birds in line at opening. Then the line starts building up before lunch. I think 10AM on a weekday is optimal.

sometimes later in the day there isn’t a line. again weekdays.

I used to visit retail stores for a living. One day, I entered a small mattress store and the only person in evidence was asleep, head down on his desk. I walked from the front to the back, returned to the front and then left.

I’m sure, that evening when his boss asked how much he’d sold, his answer was...

“I didn’t see a single customer today”. o_O

For those of you demanding he ANSWER YOUR QUESTION NOW!!, consider @Cpippen may not have been back on since your posts...
Just because he hasn’t been on since 10:45am doesn’t mean we can’t sit here and demand action!! I’m banging my knife and fork on the table right now chanting WE WANT NAMES!!

:D

"Now you listen to me. I want details and I want them right now."

Isn't it wonderful to spend your money where you are appreciated and folks actually say thanks.

An hour before I called the store to verify they had the item and they confirmed That, yes they did and the guy told me to ask for a certain rep.

Though the OP is certainly not at fault in this cluster... did he ask for the certain rep??
and yep...... would have a very difficult time doing business with them in the future...

He should get a name change to "Karen" if he doesn't give up the name of the place.
Lol, j/k.
Maybe.

@Cpippen ... enquiring minds and all that.

That store owner is dumb as hell.

Typically margin on a firearm is 5-10%. On any accessory its minimum 30% margin. IF a person would run the store based on ROI a gun store would quit selling guns. Think of the largest businesses in the outdoor market. They are not gun manufacturers, its the Midway's, Brownells and such.
Ding ding ding ding!!!

The owner flat out DECLINED $25+ margin for 2min of work in favor of $40 margin ($500 @ 8%) for 20-30min work.

First, it’s very easy to tell customer A “I’ll let you think about for a minute while I go ring up this guy. I’ll be right back.” Juggling customers is like retail 101.
Second, he should be eager to sell every accessory in the dang store to whoever wants it; everyone wants guns right now and if you have them, that customer isn’t going somewhere else. You can buy accessories anywhere.
Third, I would have tried with my calmest yet confused voice to explain that “I called prior to driving 30min and no one told me you were only selling guns. I’m very disappointed that I wasted an hour of my time and that you’re refusing to sell me some sights. I guess I’ll order them online.”

No way I’d go back there. It’s worth noting that I very rarely step foot in a LGS, online is too much easier and the deals are usually much better. So I’m admittedly a little biased.

And Phillp is the most laid back guy in there..... it really is a special place.

I wouldn't darken the door again. They made it clear they didn't want your business after you got there.

I agree, that's about the time I've had the best luck. 10 to 10:30

I work at a gun store. If I treated someone like that, Id been fired. We really try to work on good customer service. focus on good Google reviews. Thats not the way those things happen.

Yep. Our gunsmith when I worked a store might have asked someone to come back in a bit to give him some time, but flat out refusing? And not even willing to sell the part is nuts.
