Do you anneal your 223/556, 308, or 300 Blackout brass? Is it worth it?
If so is there anyone in the triad area with a machine for hire or rent?

My limited experience thus far is that annealing did not improve accuracy or standard deviation enough to make a difference. Most people agree that it extends case life, but I have not put enough reloads on any brass yet to have experienced that.

So far, I have only annealed using the salt-bath method, but I have on order an Annie Annealer, an inductive type. I’ve gotten into reforming brass, and I figure the inductive annealer will make the whole process easy enough that I am more likely to do it on a regular basis.

I do 308 brass at times and just use a blow torch. I secure the case in a universal case holder in an electric drill and spin the case in the flame until I see the right amount of color change. What is the right amount of color change? That is the trick. I do not get them red hot but see the color on the neck and shoulder change a bit. I have not done it to 223 brass because I have so much of it that I have never felt the need to do so. I also have quite a bit of 308 brass and am thinking of trashing cases before they need annealing. Life is too short to use questionable cases when you do not need to do so.

I agree, it makes more sense to anneal cases that aren’t so plentiful and cheap.

Only once when converting 223 to 300BLK, using an Aneal-ez
I probably will try it when I get around to trying to load for as much accuracy as I can achieve.

I anneal all the bottle neck cases, I like the pretty colors.

How do you anneal? Do you do it yourself?
I use a giraud annealer. It’s a bit of a pain to load cases into the chute, but then it just runs while I take care of other stuff nearby. Mostly do it in the winter when the temp is low.
