Well, that was unexpected. Got excited that I “finally live in real America” and went to go buy some good old fashioned fireworks to celebrate and distract from this lunacy going on around us andddddddd nope.

how long have real fireworks been illegal here? What a damn shame.

Lonnngg time for the one's that go bang.
I'm looking for black powder this morn to feed the cannon this weekend. Struck out yesterday.

When I grew up in Charlotte in the 1800’s, it was a long standing tradition to hitch the wagon and head just across the border below Pineville to procure REAL fireworks.

Used to be Pennsylvania or New Hampshire for me. Did not expect South to have much restriction on them. It was awkward. Pulled up and was like “yeahhhhhhh, now where’s the real stuff, guy?”...”not here sir”

SC is where you buy whatever fireworks you like, no car inspections, but no open carry either. We take the bad with the good.

Well now I know for next year I’ll have to stay a bit ahead and go to SC. And it will be super easy to set any police cars on fire that attempt to pull me over at border. #romancandles

Lot’s of places to purchase on I95 just below the border. You’ll know you are there once you see Pedro.

Thought you were now in the Containment Area. I’d be careful shooting off fireworks there. Probably not tolerated by the locals. Although maybe you could say you are celebrating BLM or a Gay Pride Parade and it would be OK. Please take video.

When I lived in NJ, we drove 20-60min to the stores in the Philly area. Now I just drive 40min down to SC.

One of my neighbors used to do a great 30min+ show, controlled from an iPad, with music, but some wicked witch moved in, called the police and got it shut down as of last year. I can’t wait for the neighborhood to light up the sky tonight as an F U to her. Good luck calling the police on the entire neighborhood lol.

We just had a neighborhood show last night up in Boone. Neighbors kid has put one on the last few years and asks for donations. He runs over to Tennessee where you can buy pretty much anything. Was a really impressive show I think he spent around $1500.

ground zero at border of Cary and apex. Only motivates me more. Though in my experience behind enemy lines, very few actually disapprove of fireworks or rat on folks.

I looked at this thread about 2.5 hours ago, said to myself 'why not?' .

So I just got back from SC. Huge line at State Line just across the border on Rt 17 so we went 6 miles further and found no lines and BOGO.

$200 later,

They're legal here. You just gotta have the right papers. :D

This is the first time in 20 years I don't have a show on the 4th.
I wish I would have thought of this before today - we could have all chipped in and planned a CFF show by @Brian K !

Swung by Sheltons yesterday around 5, place was packed out, and most of the good stock was gone, drove 10 miles farther and got some small stuff.

Here in Charlotte, we just go to ft mill, get fireworks. Come back, lightem up. Cops don't care.

When I was a kid (60 years ago, +/-) my uncle used to drive to SC to buy produce which he then sold door to door, or at the local "trade lot". He occasionally brought back something for us.

Oh yeah cherry bombs & silver salutes!

In high school we'd buy the big sparkly/showy bottle rockets, pull the caps off 'em, dump the sparkly crap, stuff an M80 in 'em, replace the caps & send 'em up/across town. Good times.

We have not had fun fireworks for at least 30 years!! I was going to TN and SC to get them back then.
We used to go to SC for them many, many years ago when I was a teenager up to no good. Road trip!!!!!

Back in the good ol' days the fireworks of choice for all holidays was a quarter stick of dynamite. The whole house would shake on New Year's Eve. Up this way you can do abut anything you want as far a noise makers go.

Neighbor a few houses down always gets the good stuff- when he touches off a mortar, you can feel the concussion for a couple hundred yards.

I like to watch 'em, but never set 'em off any more. I've done set myself on fire enough for 2 lifetimes & not interested in risking any appendages these days.
