A/C out.....

@wsfiredude for a guy that works with fire you should be able to handle a little heat. You getting soft on us?

@Stick Man a 5.56 round makes a bigger hole and will get you a trophy plaque from your friends.

Nah...just despise summer/high humidity/hot weather...

If the high never got above 70 for a couple months outta the year and then stayed in the low 50s for the rest, that'd be fine with me.

I love cold weather.

Yes a wire will arc when it gets bare and it will make a hole. I see dye was added at some point. No need for bye with a hole that size. Refrigerant would all be gone. Hit it with high pressure nitrogen and it will hiss loud.

Living in a urban area brings on higher prices from service companies. Not easy to compete without allowing for 10 percent or more back into advertising which means markup is substantial. Wish I could get $278 a pound. Even with no more being made that’s stiff for this year.

Tough hole to solder. Try to bridge it over and it will sink into the tube and block the circuit. I have a method that works but if the factory solder joints get hot they will pop off and it’s history.

I learnt years ago to keep a spare capacitor and set of contacts on hand, you won’t need contacts as often as a capacitor but the bugs do get into the contacts and they start arching and then fail.

Up and running and cooling good. Super special thanks to @jjwestbrook for helping me out. Dude knocked it out like it was nothing but a stroll in the park. Man, this forum and the people that make it up, are really something special. Thanks also to all that responded and offered to help.

I've got a almost full cylinder if R-12 in the garage.

How about a short screw cut down to fit and then braze it in.

Come on man, get with the times. A little gorilla tape, and a piece of juicy fruit gum, and voila, done, lol.

It was tricky. I used a really small flame and built it up slowly. Pulled a good vaccuum well down into the microns and charged it up. Also found and fixed a cap tube that had almost rubbed a hole. Prevented a future problem.

Damn. I need to go up on my prices.
Me also. I need some of that metropolis money. Given the difficulty, heat, and work atmosphere compared to other jobs it’s a damn tough trade. Kids will not go into this field in the future.

There seems to be an aversion to trade fields, especially those that involve manual labor and / or getting hot, cold, filthy or sweaty.

Thing is, those who do/are willing to do those jobs will be in high demand...

short supply + high demand = increased value.

Yep... that's why I'm in field service. Crawling around, repairing automated machinery. Screw sitting behind a desk... show me the money!
