RIP Charlie Daniels

Wow, sad news, indeed. RIP, Charlie D. Thanks for decades of great music.

I was lucky enough to see him play at the Grand Ole Opry. Yeah, sawin' on that fiddle and strings poppin' off.
It's a damn shame we lost him...I may have some pics around here somewhere....

Saw him with Travis Tritt last summer. Great show & I was floored at the level of musicianship up on that stage, especially some of the extended jams.

Seen him live a handful of times over the years. Always a great show. A true artist lost...

I'm sure Charlie enjoyed her playing that violin

(What This World Needs Is) A Few More Rednecks"

[Chorus:]
What this world needs is a few more rednecks
Some people ain't afraid to take a stand
What this world needs is a little more respect
For the Lord and the law and the workin' man
We could use a little peace and satisfaction
Some good people up front to take the lead
A little less talk and a little more action
And a few more rednecks is what we need

I was raised on beans and cornbread
And I like my chicken fried
Yes, I drive a pickup truck
And I'm full of American pride
I keep a Bible on my table
I got a flag out on my lawn
And I don't believe in mindin'
No one's business but my own

And I love them Rambo movies
I think they make a lot of sense
And it's a shame ole John Wayne
Didn't live to run for president

And I don't care what nobody says
I don't trust ole Gorbachev
And I don't know who turned him on
But it's time to turn him off

[Chorus]

Now they're tryin' to take my guns away
And that would be just fine
If you take Ć¢ā‚¬Ėœem away from the criminals first
I'll gladly give ya mine
And I don't mind payin' taxes
But it makes my temper itch
When my hard earned money goes
To make some politician rich

What most people call a redneck
Ain't nothin' but a workin' man
And he makes his livin'
By the sweat of his brow
And the calluses on his hands
Now you intellectuals may not like it
But there ain't nothin' that you can do
Cause there's a whole lot more of us common-folks
Then there ever will be of you

[Chorus]

That's what we need
And a few more rednecks is what we need

I got to see him a few years ago in Cary (of all places!) when he was only a day or 2 shy of his 80th Birthday (IIRC) and he was AWESOME! in person. He was still giving a very high energy concert and actually wore the bows for his fiddle SLAP OUT by the middle of the song and had an assistant standing right there to hand him another and he didn't miss a lick of the song. Must have been a regular thing with him. We were up pretty close so we got a great show. I don't know who USED to play First Fiddle in The Lord's Own Down Home Country Band, but I know who just got the seat! Thank You Charlie for the Music and the Memories!

Charlie Daniel's dies at age 83. Lost a good 2a and freedom friend.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Country music firebrand and fiddler Charlie Daniels who had a hit with 'Devil Went Down to Georgia' has died at age 83.

A statement from his publicist said the Country Music Hall of Famer died Monday at a hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee, after doctors said he had a stroke.

Saw CDB several times back in the 70's and 80's. Always a good show. We are losing all the good ones now. Damn I'm old.

I remember that, July 2008 ( because I was there with you, I guess ).

I always liked long haired country boy.......

It always sucks when someone passes, but something tells me Mr. Daniels had a good ride!

.....well you pass around the pipe and we all get high, never even stop to wonder why, maybe its because you want to die, or maybe its just the way its got to be
You stay up late and drink to damn much whiskey, even though that sort of thing is mighty risky, maybe its because you like to feel frisky, or maybe its because you like to feel free....

CDB- Saddle Tramp

RIP old friend, we will miss you.
