I was thinking more of a person as a concept for statistical analysis, a fairly typical person making a rational decision, the norm for most any random group of size. You are correct that this sort of analysis of a group does not accurately predict the decision of any one member of the group even when it does for the group and population with a high level of certainty. The risk analysis for a person with a medical condition that is exacerbated by a mask would be different than for the group overall, but that doesn’t invalidate the results for the group. Similarly the analysis would be different for a felon or a minor in school, as the risk of carrying a firearm is higher for them, still doesn’t invalidate the results.

I think you could best term me as "rational." I'm not a big follower of fads. I suggest the next time you have to sneeze or cough you put your phone or computer screen at arms length from you and see what gets on your screen. You can do the same thing in a mirror. I take it you don't have kids? I have 4. If you have ever had a kid sneeze or cough in your direction when they are sick you will get sprayed in the face from several feet. If you wear glasses it is pretty easy to spot, regardless of the visual evidence, you can feel the shotgun like wet spray that hits your face. This is easy to test the next time you cough or sneeze. You can see for your self that stuff comes out. Now if you put something that catches the majority of it in front of their face at the time of the cough or sneeze, you will have much less kid snot in your face. It is pretty simple actually. To deny masks mitigate this is... well... it's a little strange. I suggest you test it yourself and see if i am right or not.

If the election was right now I tend to agree. Who knows what happens in 4 months. I know this, though: I do not trust the polls, especially when I see such far-ranging info like "Trump down 20 points" followed by Helmut Norpoth's analysis: http://primarymodel.com/

If the government's assumption was that masks mitigate COVID, they would be mandating and supplying everyone with N95s, because that's the only one that keeps it inside the mask. Sure, a bandanna or sock around the face will mitigate juices more than nothing, but if the risk is specific to COVID, then it's missing the mark. And if you are sneezing/coughing, you need to change out surgical masks almost every time you cough or sneeze. Those things are horrible media to grow nasty things.

Millie there is a women walk around my office with a plastic face shield. I call it her blast shield. So nothing is covering her mouth. It is like band going around her head with a plastic full face shield. It is pretty funny looking though i have to admit.

I don't know who is writing the script, but I really have no idea what is going to happen next in the series we are currently starring in. It is crazier than the GoT. One thing we can be sure of is people are not happy, not happy people rarely reelect the incumbent. The die hards will vote left or right, but the almighty "swing" voters are a fickle lot. Throw in the voting machine skullduggery and you have the makings of a fine mess.
 
With luck and a good effort this epidemic will be a thing of the past this time next year. Sadly, the politics will never end as well as the special kind of stupid this country is known for worldwide.

It's probably good thing she wrote a book, so she keeps Breathing a while longer.

Frankly any Swing voter ( or Democratic voter ) that could still support Biden with a clear frame of mind after it's been proven that The Chinese OWN His ASS is way beyond me.

IMO the Covid-19 ( Scandal ) is primary and it did not work as well as the "Dark Side" wanted, so stay tuned for the next crisis from Cootie Land.

I believe Trump will get a second term unless something bad happens. Biden will not take the Oath of Office, the VP takes the Oath first and will take the POTUS oath. Nancy Pelosi becomes the VP at the Inauguration.

Dear Lord... "something bad happens" he says.... are you talking about a super volcano or aliens landing because it is pretty bad now. I think it will have to greatly improve in the next 4 months or he has no chance of getting elected again. The saving grace may be that Dem's can't seem to go to the polls for Uncle Creepy.

I think the keystone will be the economy. If it bounces back and people go back to work, he'll win. If COVID remains a thing and everything remains modified or shut down, I think he's out. Most people vote with their wallet and will go to whoever will give them the better economy.

Thanks for explainin to the grown-ups that children sneeze/cough a lot. I am sure there is somebody here who hasn't seen a child before.

I just informed my doctor girlfriend of 16 years. She was shocked to find this out, but wanted to personally thank you for informing her. You saved lives today!

Stupid assed me, I was under the impression this discussion was about mask's, not which side of the road one drives on speed limits, etc.etc. Stick to the subject ..... see what I did there?? And be careful with that word "ignorant" unless you check the mirror.....

Still not what I asked.

Where was I rude in this thread? I didn't call anyone names, I didn't say they were right or wrong. I asked a question, it wasn't answered. I asked again, with way more specification and clarification with context of where I was coming from and and they still didn't answer my question. I asked what their medical cert was since I didn't know "medical lab technician" was an actual title and someone claimed they were a medical professional. I was insulted for "lack of reading comprehension skills" (boo hoo me right?) and my word choices. I've reread my posts at least a dozen times now and don't see it. I've asked 3 other people outside of CFF as well and they don't see it either. If I was being rude, point it out, explain it, and I will try to improve my posts in the future.

Someone asking questions about your views doesn't make them rude. Not my fault people get so wrapped up in politics that questioning anything about their beliefs becomes an insult to their identity.

I'll clarify my position with maliciousness not being my intent here. Tone in text is something people frequently make up themselves based on their own bias of the post, as well as use of punctuation and word choice of course. Sounds like you didn't like the post content and just assumed it was malicious and therefore rude. I see that a lot online and I promise it's not me trying to insult you here. It's genuinely hard to convey intended tone without vocal inflections and facial cues. This probably would've gone better/cleaner in person.

I made a post/claim and defended it while trying to keep the debate on topic. That's a key element to using formal logic in a debate, which I assumed was relevant here. It almost immediately broke down into insults and kept getting derailed by people not answering my (what I thought was specific but maybe wasn't) question that I also tried (unsuccessfully) to share context for. I guess I expected more formality in debate considering how much I see talk of "reason and logic" in other parts of the forum.

I apologize for putting words in your mouth which is why I asked you for clarification of what you meant, since it's not my place to assume.
