The new law will allow anyone over 18 to add themselves to the list, designed to be kept confidential, by filling out a form with a copy of their photo ID and mailing it or delivering it to the Virginia State Police. Once a person is on the list, it will be against the law for them to purchase or possess a gun and unlawful for anyone to knowingly sell or give a gun to a person on the list. If someone on the list changes their mind, they can be removed after waiting 21 days.

So I understand this is voluntary but if it's as simple as mailing in a form with a copy of your ID how hard would it be for someone to send one in for someone else. Just another reason I don't let people take a picture of my ID/CHP or record the information on a BOS.

Same reason I'm not on those "social media" sites, some random schmuck red flagging me for no reason, then them boys show up at my front door, you know the rest

Why would you ask the gov to ban you from doing something?? Just don’t do it. Change your mind? No problem, just do it. It’s that easy.
This is just RIPE for abuse and a clear stepping stone to allowing doctors, coworkers, family members, and ultimately anyone else decide for you that you shouldn’t have guns.

Abso-freakin-lutely

You mean like writing in the names etc. of every (D) in the VA legislature (maybe a few (Rs)) and the executive branch? Just asking a rhetorical question.
Lol now THAT would be an awesome example of the abuse that would hit home for them. Just like the red flag case in CO on a cop.

This is the perfect example of the liberal mindset.

Liberal: "If I had a gun, I would gun down every single person I met who didn't agree with me."
Liberal: "I need to be able to ban myself from buying guns when I am on my meds and thinking straight."

I think you just nailed it. The constant issue of the progressive minded people is them projecting the inner workings of their own deranged minds onto the public at large.

Honestly it wouldn't be hard to make a copy of a VA license. I've seen a few thousand fakes of nc ones in 20 years just imagine how easy a photocopy would be to make.

by doing this they should have made it necessary to be notarized at least.

This will certainly be used as a plea bargain tool. I can get your charges down to “x” if you agree to ban yourself from firearm ownership.
That's a deal folks would take. The ban can be lifted by writing a letter and waiting 21 days.

As a member of Guns Anonymous l have declared my inability to stop buying guns. Maybe this law will save me!
