Watches

Spent the day hiking Rocky Mountain national park. The Alpinist was perfect.

Casio (Model: DW-291H-9AVCF)
HD Series w/10 year battery life
200m water resistance
Onthelevel elastic 22mm NATO band
Sun Co. wrist compass

This Casio model in my opinion is the best (non-G Shock) model available and a great value at $30......a great watch to mod too.

I just seen this set of pictures.

How in the hell you can have so many different recorded times in these boxes would drive me NUTS!!!

I got my box and spent a hour making sure each watch was within 1 second of each other and ever 180days I re calibrate them, LOL

I own about 30 wrist watches currently, about a 50-50 split between mechanical and quartz. I typically have two or three in the rotation at any given time, the others (mechanical) I don't care if they stop......until they are brought into the rotation.

Now in horology circles it is generally considered good form to set all mechanical watches at the 10 and 2 positions for display, which is what I do for the pocket watch collection. Most auto or even windup mechanical watches will run for a few minutes after you handle them to set the time at 10 and 2....so its not worth the trouble, I'm not that anal about it.

One day my friend, my collection will be like yours. Looks great! Do you wear your pocket watches any?

Thank you Sir. Yes on occasion I do chain-up and wear the pocket watches usually in cooler weather with a vest.

Casio G Shock DW-5600BB-1

I love the all black coloring of this model of the G Shock "squares". The face of the watch is all black with a matching LCD which creates a sleek monotone look.

I removed the OEM resin strap and installed Jay & Kay adapters, nylon two-piece band and bull bars.

Simple 1960s-era Vostok/Восток mechanical - love these old Soviet movements. Lume is all but forgotten, but this timepiece has aged well, with a nice patina to the face and bezel. Keeps on ticking!

When Hampden Watch Co. stopped trading in the 1930’s the tooling was shipped to Russia. But I don’t remember which company used it, may have been Vostok. They’re good watches. Unfortunately there’s no material system to support them.

Sorry for the bad/fuzzy first pic. Wife found this in her fathers stuff. Is this worth refurbishing? She’s thinking of having it done if feasible and wearing it. Any thoughts would be appreciated! I can get better pics if needed for condition or identification. Thanks!

I really like what he is doing with the Islander brand. It's nice to see a modern American small business owner succeed.

Very cool, I’ve been looking at this Stowa as my promotion gift.

Last week...because of @Jeppo ....I got 3 older Timex watches. These things are really cool. I set all 3 at the same time last week and they are to the second, still together. I have them sitting in front of me as I type, they are really what watches are about. Inexpensive, accurate and tough as a knot.

Mark has done a great job with the Islander brand. They offer tremendous value for the type of specs you get with these watches.

Got to love the classic Timex watches.....
