That small tree has been in the corner of my back yard for years. Its the first time I've noticed nuts on it. Hickory nuts, now that I know I will look after it. Well maybe not I don't want to kill it lol.

Looks like black walnut to me.

Black walnuts aren't segmented like those

Hard to tell from that pick. Walnuts have a lot more leaves on a stem than Hickory. So that's your test.
