Anyone recently bought one? Experiences? Knowledge bombs?

Ours is worn out. So the wife is for sure going to buy one soon. Best info I know with a mattress is you get what you pay for. But I figure there must be a limit.

At first glance it seems after $1-1.5k there is a super marketing shindig happening. I'd love to stay under 1k bit I don't know Jack about the subject. Beds seem to go from $400-2k plus:oops:

What say you?

Oh and an edit. Is there a mattress made that has a cover that you can vacuum dog hair out of? I let my Mal and our same coated mutt sleep on the bed now. When changing the sheets. Every stray hair ends up stuck on the actual mattress. It takes an act of God to get it clean...

Just bought a new King mattress from Value City Furniture. They have a new system that helps you figure out what is right for you. Each bed is rated by firmness, heat retention, and support. The Dream mattress studio mattresses are hybrid foam and coil system. I sleep like a rock. My wife is happy too. We spent $1500 in February. Other beds we liked elsewhere were over $2k sometimes by a lot.

We just got one couple months ago and went and shopped local and compared some found some we liked firmness wise and ended up thinking on it because of prices and then found a recommendation to try US Mattress online. Chatted online with them about ones we had liked and they made two recommendations since others had been discontiuned by this point and ended up ordering one and was very pleased over all. Seemed to save some money and easy service with it brought right to my door. Looked at foam ones but just didnt seem to like them as well and wasnt sure but ended up with the simmons hybrid since it was on sale for memorial day for about $400 off.

Almost got one from bjs since parents had gotten one from there with good luck but ended up with a name brand one for about same price.

I posted a thread about this a few months ago, but I think more specific to beds in a box. After much input I bought from Tuft and Needle, and am very pleased with it.

I bought the “original" and bought a mattress topper with it . If I had to do over I’d buy the “Mint".

I thought I had seen a thread but my search found nothing....

Feel like linking it?

We got a Ghostbed Flex about 6 months ago. Its much nicer than the other full memory foam mattresses I've had. It doesn't mold to your body and keep you from rolling around and seems to sleep cooler than my last one. Its also got some kind of internal springs so its much better for jumping on the bed and other such activities than a regular memory foam is.

ETA... They have a great return policy as well, if you don't like it they will refund your money and donate the mattress to a homeless shelter or something like that IIRC.

The wife seems to be all about a brand "purple mattress". It seems like marketing hype to me? Anyone have one?

That was in the running when we were looking but we narrowed down to Ghostbed or Saatva due to reviews. I didn't think that honeycomb design of the purple would hold up longterm. Ghostbed won due to their return policy, if we didn't like the Ghostbed we were going to return it and get a Saatva. IIRC Saatva had a $100 or so "refund/restocking/shipping" fee.

Tried one in the store, and the salesman did some tests on me and the wife to see if the mattress would work for each of us.

Purple was a good fit for me, but not her. He told us there was really no middle ground with them, you'll either be comfortable or hate them.

So i highly recommend going to a store and trying all of them.

We ended up going with tempurpedic, and even then the salesman helped pick out the correct firmness.

Most buy too soft a mattress and it kills their back.

Also we used denver mattress, their return policy is really good.

As for purple holding up, ive been using one of their back cushions for a couple years and no deformation. Same with a seat cushion that ive used for the last few months.

Tuft & Needle Hybrid. Their customer service is amazing and if you don't like the mattress they take it back(within 100 days). How old is your mattress now? Divide the price of the new mattress by those years; try not to think of the price as one big lump, but as an investment in fantastic sleep.
Now, we did not end up with a Tuft & Needle because they did not have the hybrid model when we were looking. We had memory foam and it didn't work for us. I called them, they said "no problem, sorry it didn't work" and next day my refund was in our bank account.
We have a Nest "Alexander Signature Hybrid Mattress" and my wife loves it more than me. It is 1) Nest mattress, 2)coffee, 3) our dog, 4) me. Which is fine, as long as she is happy, I'm happy. :) My wife suffers from severe Rhemotid Arthritis and she did a lot of research into mattresses. Nest customer service is great, the first mattress they sent us didn't work(too soft), so we took a picture of the bed frame, top of the mattress(for stains) and that was it. They sent us another one.
Buy a mattress with at least a 100-day trial. Your body needs 30 days at a minimum to adjust and the more the better.

My wife was the same way 5yr ago when Purple just launched and I dismissed it. I looked at mattress stores and realized a good King was going to run me ~$4k and that was NOT happening. I looked at all of the D2C mattresses and ended up taking a gamble on the purple. I absolutely love it, from day 1 to today. They now have other models but we have the original. I think it was like $1300 for a king, my best friend recently bought the mid-grade king and also likes his.
I really like that the bed doesn’t make me hot like a foam topper type mattress does. You don’t sink in very far like an overly soft bed that feels good initially but then you realize the support sucks. The top “purple” layer has just enough give to be comfortable then the foam layers provide the support.
Like their marketing says, it does a good job at not transferring movement so when I hop in bed an hour after my wife, I don’t have to wake her.
I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another purple, but I’ve also heard great things about other D2C brands.

We bought a Saatva about a year ago. Ordered the extra firm at first. Slept in it for a month or so, then exchanged for the next firmness down. No restock, no shipping/delivery charge either way. Super impressed with the quality and service.

So we have ended up with a Purple mattress. About 10 days in now. Definitely sleeps cooler. Plus the dogs don’t shake the whole bed when they hop on/off. Wife loves it.

Only issue is slight smell of the foam off gassing, hopefully that will dissipate soon. Otherwise quite happy vs our old pillow top:)

It showed up as a 150lb 6’ tall roll. In a zippered, translucent vinyl case with nice, nylon strapping with looped grab handles on each end.

I toted it upstairs (150lbs is heavier than I remember:rolleyes:) It slipped smoothly out of the case. I layed it on the old box spring and used the handy letter opener they provided (to prevent cutting the mattress) to go through the couple layers of plastic it was vacuum sealed in and boom new mattress installed.

Only other note. Why don’t Cali king mattresses come with handles on them? This thing will be a bear to move if we ever find the house and property to move to:eek:

Please check in again after a month. I'd like another update. :)
Had it for a while now. Still love it.

It‘s not magic but I feel it was worth the price. Smell has disappeared long since. It does sleep cooler and my shoulders/arms don’t go numb nearly as often.

An interesting note. Whatever material the outside of the mattress is made from seems to “grip” the fitted sheet very well. Somehow in my sleep I have a habit of pulling the corner of the sheet loose. I’ve done it for years. But have yet to have this happen with the purple.

I got a Zinus from Amazon back in April. We have been very pleased with it. @JustKeepSwimming got one of them around the same time that we got ours.

I got a Zinus in March of 2019

pretty firm, no sagging, I really like it. No back pain in the morning.
I bought a zip on mattress cover to protect it.
$200 not bad deal at all.
