Recently became interested in picking up a charger. I found one for $294 but I literally am going to change everything besides the receiver. Looking around a bit and it looks like I can build one from scratch? Am I correct in that assumption? I think it'd be cheaper in the long run to do that over buying a factory charger and swapping everything out.

I'm new to 10/22 so I just figured I'd check.

I guess you can say monkey but if you have them in a barrel PETA will be very upset.

+1 for SAP Outfitters.

I've built a couple guns off bare receivers I bought from them. Good prices and service.

$110 for a takedown receiver with integral rail on top over at brownells
it's on backorder, but the non-railed version is in stock and is a few bucks less. the non-takedown version is even cheaper but is also on backorder

I'd be careful, if your checked it would be easy to see "Charger" stamped on the receiver and the DA cop can google it and see that it's a PISTOL and not a SBR..... Mine looks all the part of a SBR except for the stamping .....

SAP Outfitters sells the stripped "Charger" marked receivers. When building a pistol that's where I start.

Not to rehash a dead horse, but a pistol can be made a rifle (16" barrel, full stock) and be fine. If he buys a charger receiver and puts a rifle stock and rifle barrel on it he is fine. Rifle stock and pistol barrel a nono. Am I wrong @BigWaylon

Correct.

pistol->rifle->pistol is just fine...as long is it never becomes an SBR based on the order of operations

will Johnny Law know that? doubtful

details on the brace?

Both my Chargers have KAK shockwave blade braces.

One is in a Nordic components chassis.

The other is attached to the factory stock via a copper custom brace adapter.

Just an FYI - Brownells sells their receivers as "other" as well. No issues having it as a pistol or rifle.

Here's the one I built with mostly leftover parts. It has a whistle pig barrel and a pmaca chassis.

Nice! I'm liking the enoch odin chassis with a folding brace. Need to decide on barrel length and if I want to tuck my mask in the chassis a bit or not. Either way it looks like I'll be waiting a while. Most everything is out of stock
