just dumped 1/2 “ of rain and as soon as it stopped the power went out.
5 miles east of Asheboro

No AC !!
I want my privilege!!

WAAAaah

I did just get done hooking up one rain barrel.

55 gals filled with 1/2” of rain from half the garage/shop roof . I was down rightly surprised.

Oh, Duke says power back on by 8 PM....

BEST way to never lose power is to buy a generator. Power would go out at my old house at least once a month it seemed. Finally broke down and bought a geni and all of a sudden we didn’t have outages but twice in the next two years. Have used it once at my new place over last two years.
course as I typed this my power almost went out since we are getting stormed on.
Hope power is restored quickly for you.

I bought one at my last house primarily to run the sump pump to prevent the basement from flooding in the event of tropical storm/rain/outage. I needed it once in ten years but boy did I need it then. Matthew.

I’m sitting by my dumpster at my office building. Just sat thru one heck of a hail storm. Hail stones about the size of marbles. I hope the hood on my 2016 Wrangler isn’t damaged.

I hadn’t had a Gen but for just a little while now. When we got the freezer we bought the Gen. that’s all I really care about.
We could tap the shop panel and run the little AC in there if it get unbearable.
Oh wait, I forgot we have a portable AC in the shop under the bench too. Just have to rig the exhaust to the outside.

We are having a frog strangler as we speak. Not much wind, but plenty of electricity.

Annnnnnd the power is out.

And now it’s back on.

Just long enough to reset all the clocks.

1 hour 10 mins.

But — looking at the radar coming from Greensboro and hearing the thunder.... this might be short lived.

The powers been out at my place in Davidson/Huntersville for 2hr, Duke says eta 1015p. Nearly every other heavy rain storm takes down a tree outside my neighborhood that kills our power.

Thankfully my house is still pretty cool and I have a generator that’ll be fired up to keep the fridge and chest freezer going if 1015p comes and goes. We’ll see.

In the mean time, everyone in the neighborhood is outside because the rain cooled things off probably 15 degrees!

Good luck it was a hot one today after being out in the sun working most of the day I was ready for a storm to cool it off. Thunder and clouds came but it went around and just got a little sprinkle out of it. Guess cannot be to picky since we did get a frog strangler yesterday.

We have natural gas here to run it on. It's on our long list.
Several folks in my neighborhood had 20KW units installed for about $10K, with natural gas. My wife wouldn’t have it, so I surrendered to the poor man's version above.

So much for 1015. At 10 they revised the ETA to 12a. Generator is running which means the chest freezer full of “liquid gold” is safe, my wife won’t have a melt down, and the baby will be fed.

I grabbed a 2kw WEN (same exact model as the HF Predator and CAT, maybe others too) sometime last year when WOOT had them on sale. First time I’ve had to use it and she fired right up first pull. Quieter than I expected, but still no Honda, but it was also only like 30% the price.

The one I have is LP but better than not having it

What the hell is a Frog strangler?

If you lived many years as a frog you'd understand!! Not many survive.....

We lost power about 6:30 so I sat on my ass until about 9:00 and then gave in to the fact that it wasn't coming back before bedtime so I set everything up. Genset plugged into the bypass box, easy peasy. Comfy all night and I knew the power came back about midnight but didn't feel like going out to disconnect so just let it run until I got up in the morning.....

Last year there was a storm and one of the guys in a ham radio club I’m in had two of his cars totaled by hail and a third massively damaged. I was driving home in the storm and thought for sure it was going to break the window.

I have a 20kw Kohler whole-house that runs on LP from my already-existing 500 gal buried tank. The "Kohler guy" is ten minutes from my house and this 20kw setup cost me $5,300 for the generator, pad, and switchgear, $1,500 for the electrical work from the guy they recommended, and $313 for the gas connection. The generator was easy to have set very close to where the house meter is and a LP connection point was already "right there". The Generac guy was over an hour away, recommended a 27kw and quoted around $11,000 IIRC. The Kohler guy said his Generac competitor "tends to oversize" his quotes as if everything in the house is always on. This was four or so years ago when I finally decided to quit doing the DIY house-generator solutions I've done in the past... :). A neighbor ended up getting the exact same Kohler setup as mine. I have no complaints. It is also true that your power go out a lot less once you install one. One thing to keep in mind: The Kohler is probably not the quietest one on the market, though where mine is installed, it's not a noise nuisance for us. ...But when the zombies come, they will be listening for generators.

@Jerzsubbie , did you get power back at midnight ?
It came on a little before 1a, thankfully. The house was getting a little too warm for me to sleep comfortably so I was very thankful when it popped back on.
Apparently some neighbors on other streets didn’t get power until a couple hours later. Weird.

No power outage here in Midland but something worse.

Burnt out blower motor on the home AC. No replacement until Monday sooooo.....it’s hot.
I have a portable A/C you are welcome to borrow if you want to drive over to Belmont. It will atleast take the humidity out of the air and make the room you sleep in cool!

Last Generac I put in the correct gas pressure valve was $300 alone. Can’t just use one made for an appliance. Runs fine until it’s on for a long period then it’s technician time.
