Gone

Coincidentally, when I was over at Katy at my buddy's place, he had just gotten in a transfer from Fuquay Gun & Gold.

If only they were closer ...

I have a @Fuquay Gun story to share. I’m going to recount it in hopes it helps their business.

In May of 2018, I agreed to buy a gun from a CFF member living in FV. When discussing where to meet, I suggested the FG&G parking lot. I’d heard great things about the store and thought I could kill two birds on my 4 hours of round trip driving. The seller suggested we meet at 6.

I arrived a bit early and began my first experience in the store. I quickly picked out two guns and made my purchase. When I exited the store, the CFF seller was there and we did our deal. When I grimaced about it being “a three gun day”, he laughed and explained he asked to meet at 6 to be certain he couldn’t go inside and be tempted. :)

A few weeks later, I had another excuse to drop by FG&G. I managed to get the same sales guy (who didn’t remember me...it happens) and looked thru the cases that interested me. Unfortunately for both of us, there was nothing interesting I hadn’t seen on my previous visit. I explained to the fellow that it takes me 4 hours to get down to his store and back home. I consider myself a serious buyer (evidenced by my purchase the first time I was there) and have very specific tastes in guns. I asked whether they had a system that allowed them to match prospective buyers with each new gun that arrived. Surely computerization could facilitate this. What would be the value of selling guns before even putting them on display? He said, “We don’t do that”.

That’s ok with me. I haven’t been back because I’m not gonna spend 4 hours on the road JUST IN CASE there might be something interesting for sale. I wasn’t alienated by his answer, just thought of the lost business opportunity for the store. If I find myself in the area, I’ll probably drop in and see what’s available.

One dealer who was willing to try to match customers interests with arriving guns was Jason at Triangle Gun Vault. I bought every gun he ever called me about. :)

The void left by the GunVault’s closing should work in FG&G’s favor. Maybe they don’t need more business.

I went there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was also a byproduct of meeting in the lot for a transaction and I came up from Charlotte! Admittedly, I came up to the area for multiple reasons. Like many others, I left a few hundred dollars lighter, but happy! Great store.

Ha. FG&G obviously has some inadequately trained sales people. "Mr. Jeppo, what will it take to get you into this Glock/Sig/S&W/Ruger/H&K/Beretta pistol today?"

I frequent downtown Fuquay, coming in from the north side. I bought some blinders to put on my glasses so I can't see anything but the road ahead. Otherwise that place sucks the dollars right out of my account.

They actually do this. My name, number, and my request list was left there and I received several calls about items.

Then that sales guy I had was an idiot.

Wrong answer, "let me ask my manager".

I’m just glad I live up the street from them. They’ve been balls to the wall since March. I’m sure their guys are having to work lots of hours, in fact I know they are. And I don’t know where I’d rather shop for guns and ammo.

I have never been in FG&G but I work with a couple of guys that shop there regularly and say its a great place to go. I don't need another Gun Shop in NC. I spend so much money with Philip at Midsouth that I was tempted to list him as a dependent on my income tax last year. I do see a lot of guns offered by FG&G on Gunbroker. He seems to have one hell of an inventory and a nice mixture as well. Not sure if the ones listed on line are for sale in the store as well, but if they are he must keep a lot of guns in stock

That’s funny right there. :D

they... they... keep a list of people looking for guns?
this is bad news indeed. Especially if they're reading this
because I'm looking for:
Walther ppx, ppx threaded, sp22, sp22m1, sp22m3, sp22m4, p99 v1 in .40 and 9mm, p99qa, and also p38/p1, pps, ppsk.
And while we're at it, a magnum research mr9 4" version (made by walther) and an sw99 .40 (made by walther)

And for reference, I'm the guy that walked in, paid for a beretta 9000s, and said "hi, i just moved to NC and i can't even buy guns yet, but I'll pick it up when i get a permit" and then accidentally bought a spikes's snowflake AR lower while I was there.
Thanks for those, btw - I had a good time both visits to the store.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that does transactions in their parking lot.... I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent there. I've been shopping at FGG since Clay was in that little spot by the Los Tres restaurant.

I have found when things get busy like this they typically don't go out of their way to put you on a list or anything.

I bought my first gun that wasn't from FGG in the past 10 years, recently, a Glock they couldn't seem to get in stock. Sales guy said their Glock case was embarrassing for a platinum dealer. LOL.

Really shouldn’t be doing trades in their parking lot guys. Go to the side road or Kohl’s.
Not that I think they care but I believe it has legal ramifications to them.

New guns they absolutely have a list you can be put on in almost all cases. Been on there several times for all sorts of stuff.

I asked them about used guns once cause I am a huge mil surp guy and was told that their system, just isn't set up for that sort of linking thing on trades.

You can call anytime and ask what they have in stock though, and they do hold items for customers.

Maybe the difference is that I was (and am) looking only for older, used guns.
