So the wife and I are trying this new yet not so new thing Intermittent fasting. Anybody have any experience doing this? She just started a few days ago, I've been doing 16:8 for almost 2 weeks and I'm down 12.5 pounds, which is shocking since I'm not a big guy and I haven't been doing anything different for these two weeks except the 16 hour fast each day. Energy level is up, I can tell my testosterone is leveling out just based on how I feel, and I don't have the aches and such that seem to come about in the good ol' 30's. Overall I feel pretty awesome and I'm going to incorporate workouts and clean eating this weekend and see if I can get back to the shape I was in 10 years ago.

One thing though is that every morning I have a ridiculous headache, where my eyes are blurry and I see spots, starting about 0730 and fading away about 0900. I've been prone to migraines since I was born and used to get one every couple of days, but since I started this I haven't had a single one. Any insight or advice would be great.

For me, IF (skipping the evening meal occasionally) and cutting carbs works the best for me.

I've been down almost 30lbs so far, but am holding steady at about 20lbs down.

39 lbs in six weeks. I'm in the groove now and one meal a day isn't a big deal. I will need to move to two meals a day now since I am getting TOO thin. I do need to do a prolong fast or two to reap the benefits of Autophogy.

Here's my twice daily vinegar mix. Helps with energy and cramps if prone.

Twice a day

1 tablespoon vinegar "with the mother".
1 tablespoon lemon juice
20ml L-Carnitine 3000mg (comes with cup) this is berry flavor and hides the awe ful taste of below.
1/2 teaspoon potassium citrate
1/2 teaspoon magnesium citrate
1 scoop creatine.
Some bubbly water drink.
Some small jars. 20200806_054543.jpg

My younger son has been doing this, along with running and yoga for over a year. He is down 0ver 150 lbs and counting.

He has had a weight problem most of his life. It is so good to see him, finally, taking care of himself.

There was a thread about I.F. here some place but it has been a while (found it).

I tried it for a year but it didn’t work for me (blood sugar and other metrics got messed up). I did lose about 30lbs but was tired, “foggy”, etc, so I stopped

In doing the 16:8 I've been eating a smaller lunch, and then eating dinner, starting the fast about 7pm, ending the fast about 11am the next day. Everything feels great, my levels are all good. The only issue is these headaches that makes my eyes pretty much useless. I'd say they're about 90% of a full blown migraine every morning.

I’ve been eating a banana around 9, a pack of nabs at lunch and still eat a regular super. I always been a big eater and still eat twice as much at night as I should. Drink a gallon of sweet tea a day and at least one honey bun.
The nabs and bananas daily stuff has cut 12lbs in 6 weeks If I could give up the tea or honey buns I bet it would be closer to 20. Running about 248 now. I would love to get back to around 215-220. That’s was my 18-40 yrold average

I took a week long Immersion Course from Mors Korchanski, the Father of Modern Bushcraaft. He taught us How To Survive in the Boreal Forest in Winter. Mors passed away last year. What a wonderful fellow!

Mors asked a question of the class while we were all sitting around a campfire.

Who will survive longest?
A) A man sitting under a tree drinking hot water, or
B) a man running around trapping and eating rabbits?

We knew the answer had to be A), but why? First of all, for some reason, you absorb water better when it is hot, so hot tea is best for avoiding dehydration (and related headaches and muscle cramps). Mors explained that at the beginning of the time you are Starving by not eating, your body burns something like 90% protein and 10% fat. Then, when your body realizes that this is going to last a while, you move into a Fasting State, and your body burns something like 80% fat and 20% protein. Mors said that for every pound you are overweight, you can survive one day. You could see the wheels turning, as every old fat guy around the fire figured out how long he could last... "Wow! I could last 90 days!" exclaimed one fellow!

There was a student in that course who fasted regularly, and he said the more you do it, the quicker you can get into a Fasting State. I need to give this weight loss method a try!

I've been inspired to give this a try. Day three is today. Down 2.5 #.

I scheduled a physical for the 13th. Here's hoping I'm skinny before then so the doctor doesn't scold me, lol

Day four, down 3.25 #

next few days are key. My present weight fluctuates a little and at present weight I'm still in the "margin of error". If weightloss continues at present rate I'll break out of the brackets and actually record real weight loss

I didn't really notice anything for two weeks, and I avoided the scale just for my brain's sake. But my wife was saying she noticed after about 5 days that was starting to slim down. And I'm not a big guy to begin with.

IF is amazing. I went from 196 to 170. Of course, I went to the gym and ran as well. My body fat dropped from 20% to 13%. Never been better.

Finally got on the scale again last month. Had to. I knew I had gained a lot of weight since I got back from my last China trip. I was putting it off because I knew I would like what I saw.
Gained 100# since that last trip. I have a closet full of clothes that don't fit.
Started trying the 16/8 IF and cutting carbs way back. We've kind of been doing that on weekends. Eating breakfast late. Only eating two meals with dinner around 5.
So just applying it to weekdays and cutting out snacks too.
I didn't get a fat as I was in 2011. But close. Not the same fat content since I am still swimming. Just working back up to precovid distance endurance.

Well I cut caffeine out completely because it was setting off migraines before. I’d drink a coke and go full tilt migraine an hour after.

I get a massive headache if I drink a regular soda. Had a sprite on the way home one night, woke up feeling like I used to when I was a drunk.
Sugar, not caffeine, is my enemy.
Exedrine Migraine has caffeine.

I'm a fan of intermittent fasting. Works well for weight loss and maintaining depending on how clean you eat otherwise. Seems to be multiple health benefits to giving your digestive and system a "break."

I've thought of IF to cut some weight but I don't have the gumption to research it much. I'm not a big eater because of some digestive issues. Not looking to lose a lot of weight but 10-15# would make a huge difference for me. BTW, in the gym daily if that matters.
What are the "IF for Dummies" basics? If I stop eating at 6PM and am waiting my 18h to eat again, what's ok to drink? Coffee w/ splenda and creamer in the morning or a hard with calories so only water?

The most common I have seen is 16/8. I have breakfast at 10, lunch around 1:3-2. Dinner around 5:30. Smaller meals too. Stopped snacking in the evening. water with cider vinegar, coffee, outside that window. I'm a total noob to this. My son has been doing this. Seems to have helped his Crohns too.
