I've got to go to the Sheriff's office for printing next week. What do I need to bring? What do they do other than print? Are there any questions to answer? Any advice? I don't care for surprises.
 
Metal detector on the way in with two Sheriff's Officers working it. So leave Guns, knives, brass knuckles, etc in the car. :)

Have all your documents in your hands while waiting in line, last time I was there they were yelling at people for taking 5 minutes to provide documentation when they had 30 minutes in line to prepare.
 
I was there a week ago picking up my CCP. Usually they mail it now, but I renewed mine a year and a half ago and never picked up, long story.

They make you wait outside, check with a deputy, who sees why you are here. Don't forget mask, and don't forget that you belt buckle is metal. :p 4th Street Parking is close by and not too expensive. There will be protestors, but they didn't bother me. The entrance is weird, it's a little off to the side.

Well at least it's not like Rutherford Co. You go in the same entrance marked for where the sex offenders have to go to register.

Go ahead and go to the Meck jail lobby first, it’s accords the street. You’ll have to check in with the nurse there first and go through to COVID questions and have your temp taken. You’ll get a wristband that you’ll need to enter the permit office.

It’s actually the same office in Charlotte, the sex offender registration is in the next door at the back.

Well this is done. Thanks to everybody who chipped in a little detail for this visit. All went well. There was one "event"...my wife has a pen made from a .30-06 shell that she left in her purse. The nice deputy called her out on it and gave her a talking too that was about as abrasive as a wool blanket on a bare butt. She just smiled (behind her mask) and batted her big blue eyes at him, "I'm so sorry, sir. It's just a pen , sir" No big deal. Now the 4 month wait begins.

Haha! You thought Rutherford was the only one? No, no, no, Meck has been that way for a long time.
I’m now in Cabarrus and thankfully they don’t make people guess if you’re a gun guy or sexual predator.
 
I saw a few folks while I was there. Mostly young, mostly AA, mostly women. I'm assuming they're all getting gun permits and good on them. None looked like kiddie creepers.

The packet of papers you print up when you apply online, my NC driver license, and proof of payment online.
My wife, born in Europe, needed to bring proof of citizenship as well.
 
You sign online.
Then you sign some papers at the office. They notarized mine in the office too.

Try on Illinois for a real challenge. 16 hours training. 120 day wait. Sheriff in Cook County has discretion to not issue. Appeal board is made up of Democrat appointments loyal to Pritzker. Some people waiting over three years to get a permit.

The good people in IL just need to tell them to shove it and start buying guns like they do on the south side of Chicago!
