Had an el cheapo Lucid M7 red dot with a circle dot reticle. Right outta the box I was seeing a double, or even triple circles. Sent it back to manufacturer, and they let me know that people with astigmatisms have this issue, and gave me a free cheapy 2x magnifier....I'll be damned if they weren't correct. The double reticle went away.

That being said, I don't have this issue with my EoTech reticles, anyone else see similar?

Yes...i have to be SUPER picky with my red dot purchases. I've found a few that work well for me, and relegate my purchases to these SKUs only.

Aim points with the brightness turned down work the best for me. The EO Tech type circle is a no go.

Very much so, even with the most expensive red dots. I have astigmatism and I had RK eye surgery years ago. Instead of a dot I see a cluster of grapes with a starburst array of lines radiating from it. I thought I had a defective sight too until I took a photo of the dot and saw what my camera saw.

Look for a Prism sight. Burris, Leupold, Vortex all make one. Reticle is clear as can be and they still work when the batteries die.

Yeah, happened to me sometime in the last couple years. Double image on all my red dots. Most of them are Vortex SPARCs, which came with a screw-in 2X magnifier that never gets used. Guess I ought to install one and see if it makes any difference.

Are your Eotech's holographic sights? If so that is likely why...astigmatism doesn't mess up the image from the Hologram as badly. As someone above, prism sights also help.

But here is a trick Ive found for making a reddot easier to see, even with astigmatism... try it cowitnessed through a peep sight ( any style as long as it is cowitness capable), it will only allow a fraction of the light enter your eyes through the small aperture, so the dot will remain clear! It really does help!

Also, the closer you can get the dot sight to your eye, the better for astigmatism aswell....

I used to think Id never be able to use a reddot, until I realized that different brands can work differently with your eyes. IF you can, view through them before you buy, and try it in multiple postions.

EDITED TO ADD:
also! Try the SMALLEST DOT you can find, if you can. The Starburst effect isnt as bad on smaller dots, and they WILL look bigger to you then the MOA spec would indicate. So if you can, check out different dot sizes aswell.

The eotech style reticles work for me as well. My eye catches red dots at lower brightness levels and like mentioned, smaller moa dots. i am interested in trying out a magnifier now for my sparc ar.

I know a place that accepts these red dots that fall victim to astigmatism, free of charge....;)
