I've always had shotguns, but never one specifically for home defense. Today, I picked up the 8-shot Maverick 88 Security w/ 20" barrel to fill that role. I'm interested in what add-ons ya'll think are a must have. I'm gonna keep mine simple, prob a light and a side saddle. Thoughts and pics are appreciated. @kcult

A sling ... a sling is basically a holster for a long gun. I like ‘em because anytime I may have a need to transition from long gun to handgun or need free up my hands for a second or two I do not believe in laying down a firearm ... just sling it and handle the chore and if need be you’re right back to the long gun ... and a long gun is more batter 90% of the time.

What kind of shell holders are those? Are they elastic?
Maybe I need to clarify, just in case...as there are some that are an elastic sleeve to go around a stock, etc. There are others that attach using the receiver pins.

This have Velcro on the side of the receiver, and the shell holder has the other piece of Velcro. The shell holder “pockets” are what are elastic.

I actually meant to say velcro when I said elastic. I've got some ordered. Lol

You already have an 8 shot magazine capacity, so you really don’t need much. A side saddle can add capacity, a light might be nice but make sure it can handle the recoil.
Other than that, buy a bunch of cheap birdshot and run drills, money well spent.

I've already added both. I'll try to post pics tonight.

Point to ponder ... how many feel they have enough HD ammo to feed their HD shotgun? I run 00 Buck and have slugs if needed on hand but 12 ga HD stuff has dried up just as .223/5.56 and 9mm. I decided to go on and pick up a case of 12 ga dove load (season starts next month) and they had waterfowl loads so I picked up a few boxes of a BB waterfowl load just in case. I doubt I’d run thru my inventory of HD Buck and slugs but 12 ga BB waterfowl wouldn’t worry me as a substitute. Just saying ... when stacking it deep I know some people might not think as much about the old shotgun.

I've bought more shotguns and shells in the last month than I have my entire life.

That's how bad it's gotten. :p

As long as I don’t actually have to use it, I have plenty!! You might even call it a lifetime supply. :D

I buy all ammo in bulk. Cheaper that way lol. Last time I bought shot shells, I got 500. Since I dont shoot my shotguns near as much as other stuff, I prolly got between 400-450 shells in ammo cans in the safe.
Of course, I dont use 12 ga for HD either because wifey. Wifey no likey lol.
We run a Mossberg SA 20 Tactical with Remington Express #3 Buck.
