How to get kicked off the range in 10 seconds

When I used to live in PA and used the public range... the range officer would sit in the woods and wait for a rapid fire person. He then would show up to do a magazine check. You could only have 3 rifle rounds in your magazine. If you had more he would give you a ticket. No AR mag dumps!

No full auto or binary triggers on our ranges (rapid fire okay, at the time). That said, we had a kid come in who could rapid fire that sounded for all the world like full auto and did not experience any muzzle lift. It was phenomenal! That said, rapid fire rules changed to 3 round type bursts.

Must be a public range.
I saw no safety issues but LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR...

I RO on our members only range once a month. Even with it being members only, the amount of stupid I see is remarkable. Unfortunately, public/semi-public/high-member count ranges need rules in place to protect against the lowest common denominator shooter.

It sucks for those that have some skills.

Now that I think of it, my old range in NJ wasn’t even that bad. They said ~1 shot/sec but if you wanted to do a burst/magdump, as long as you were the only one on the range and we’re hitting your target the RO would look closely but didn’t say anything. NJ also had a 15rd mag limit then, now it’s 10, so you couldn’t go on for too long anyway... no betamag dumps haha.

UM, ticket? Range Officer is LEO?

So the RSO isn't a traditional RSO. He's a Twigpig.
Yeah and maybe Range Officer is the wrong term. I should have said game warden

I don't want to go to that range.
You'd Love it here!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't see One thing he did wrong except choosing where he went to shoot. Just because You don't have the skills that he performed doesn't make him an idiot. If he can stay "on" at that pace he can sure stay on using your chosen pace. One shot on at 1,200 yards is a wonderful skill, but to label a shooter as Lowest common Denominator for showing a useful skill in another environment is another sort of idiocy.

If he flaunted range rules he should find somewhere else to shoot. Like Here. I am amazed at people that can horrible names to folks that don't fall in what they seem to like. YOU certainly wouldn't like it here. If you are safe and effective you are welcome to show your skills here.

That is precisely the issue Billy and I agree wholeheartedly. The problem on a public range (or private for that matter) is the "monkey see, monkey do" dynamic. You let the guy with true skill do something that skirts existing rules, the other whitnesses that do not posess those skills think they can skirt the rules with disastrous outcome.

We are sooo lucky here. Every person that comes is aware of the consequences of hi or her actions. That man's mistake was he chose the wrong Place to do that..apparently. Now if he chose to not conform to the rules that everybody were supposed to go by, that just makes him a Jackass of the first order. I can't wait for you to get an opportunity to join us here. You are obviously good at what you do and don't jump off the roof calling names. Believe me, being obnoxious here is as apt to get shown the gate as bad gun handling.
Only 3 now Banned for life....for different offences. Not bad for 15 years. Come see us!!!

I don't think anyone was calling the shooter in that vid the 'lowest common denominator'. When *I* used that reference it was in relation to the idiots that come along that CAN'T shoot like that, or worse, TRY to shoot like and send rounds off range.

Had a public range like that in Michigan. No more than 5 rounds in a mag. No rapid fire. Double taps were acceptable.

I like where i shoot now. Long as people arent being stupid, we're left alone.

I dont shoot like that because I dont shoot enough and would just be spraying the target. But if he has control of the rifle I dont see a big problem.

Then again people are getting in fights for not wearing masks so what the hell do I know.

Class3 guys can usually do stuff like this guy pretty easily. Its kind of a feel/rythem thing. Quite different from more traditional shooting. Personally I cant afford it. I have to savor every round. I have been shooting with friends that were into class3 and liked to rapid fire semi autos... pretty neat. Its fun to watch people when they know what they are doing.

Freedom means firing once every forty seconds.

Ok, I admit I was just looking for a chance at an alliteration.

...TRY to shoot like and send rounds off range.

This is a real issue on an indoor range.

There are some with egos bigger than their abilities. There is a reason some rules exist. Not saying that, with practice, shooters can't meet the challenge. It's just a matter of finding the correct place to practice. Know the rules of the place where you are shooting and you won't be "that guy".

Probably the best way to avoid this is to talk to he range officer before you just do a mag dump with that many people around. I suspect once you show your abilities they are confident you have control of the firearm. Now if your in a crowd and just start getting trigger happy people might be put off a little bit.

Think about it... your out shooting traditional aimed fire and some guy with an AR does a mag dump. Of course people are going to take notice....I would hope they do anyways. Its kind of out of the norm so people are going to turn there heads.

Much easier to just communicate your actions before opening up like that....Good manners.

Billy, this is why when we come shoot at Battery Oaks you have to FORCE us to shoot fast. Most of the ranges we shoot at have us neutered. I swear if a mob of Antifa was busting down my door I would shoot 5 times, take a 3 second break and then shoot 5 more.

Same here.

Laws are made for the lowest common denominator.

If your heart is beating 160 times a minute and you've got shit in your shorts...you'll shoot fast. I want you to shoot Good...Clint Smith;)

When I was using the DNR range around here and I brought an AR-9 that I built and loaded a 30 round magazine then pulled the trigger twice and the magazine was empty. Everybody on the range looked my way. The RO said that there is NO auto fire here. Showed him the gun and that the trigger locked up he could not figure out why it went in auto mode. Was not asked to leave but was told that I could not fire that gun any more.
My new range the only restriction is shooting a 50 BMG. You can do it but the owners want to know when you are shooting it. They want to have some trigger time.

sounds like a good range Ha Ha.

So the second trigger pull on the AR9 gave you a runaway? Did you keep control of the rifle enough to keep it in the dirt?

Yes I did have control. It was a 16" carbine. Come to find out that the spring in the bolt was not strong enough to keep the firing pin back. What is was doing was slam firing. Asked AFT what would happen if they exam the gun and said it was completely legal.
