a supposed 45 caliber jacketed bullet that measures .449?
Updating my inventory today, found these that I bought from the cracksmokingcanadians site a while back- about 300 each, measure .449 and weigh 230gr (+/- .5 to .7gr).
I want to say they were described when I bought them as military pulls, most have a nice green sealant on the projectile itself.

Possibly they were swaged when loaded and crimped previously? they got pulled for some reason

I was thinking because no one could hit anything worth a damn, lol.
They don't seem to have a crimp line that a fingernail can catch on-
They're open base, maybe I'll just melt them down to recover the lead.
Can't imagine that accuracy would be there.

We used to have an older gentleman that went to Camp Perry every year. He always brought back 5 gallon buckets of shot .45 FMJ bullets. He sold them for One Cent each and I used to buy them by the bucket. He would go down range and pick them up off the ground be hind the 50 yard line stage. They Shot Great! They were all I shot in our local matches for a long time. Our longest shots were 25 yards and it was usually mansized targets and they were plenty accurate. Never measured one...I mish that old Gentleman.

Pretty sure I'm catching your drift, sir. I won't worry about them.

I don't have one in front of me but I'd bet the inner groove dia of a 45 cal barrel is small enough to grab those bullets if you can get them moving.

Your issue is going to be neck tension I think. If you can't get them to stay put with tension then no amount of taper crimp will make them safe.

I'll be doing a fair amount of experimenting once I get my Rhineland kit together. Rediscovered 125 Speer 300gr pills that are at .451, I'm looking forward to putting them downrange through that rifle.

You can still pick up spent projectiles on the range there, albeit with some 9mm mixed in there nowadays. I'd pick up handfuls walking to the pits during service rifle week.

I'm confused... were these once-shot bullets from super weak loads, primer-only loads, what up?

I bought them as "pulls" - pretty sure the green sealant on most of them confirms pulls rather than once-shot.
I was just asking if anyone had seen supposed 45 cal bullets measure at .449. Or maybe they weren't for 45...

Either way, they'll get used. Not because I'm hard up for 45 cal, quite the opposite lol. I was going to buy today and listened to the little voice that said, "you should check your stores first".
So I did- spent about 5 hours finding everything, estimating by weight the larger amounts and hand counting those packages that were open, 100pack and under.
I still have 2 small bottles of 147gr 308 pulls to count, might do that tomorrow lol. I pulled those myself, some 82 & 83 7.62x51 from overseas that the powder got wet, clumped up and discolored the brass. Berdan brass and powder got pitched, kept the pills.
