There is a more or less private range in Huntersville. It has been there roughly 40 yrs. and the current owner of the property has been there for 20 yrs. It's my understanding that the current owner does some LEO training and maybe some private instruction, otherwise it's not really open to the public. No listing on goggle, and you can't just show up and plunk down your fee and start blasting away. I live very close, but not in the Arrington subdivision that has some people/antis/dumbasses/Karen, Kevin snowflakes living there quite upset. I knew it was there because I knew for some reason that it was close by and took the time to check out the surrounding area when we were ready to buy.

It was grandfathered when Mecklenburg County implemented the 900 ft. rules for discharging a firearm. It is apparently a very safe operation with no known safety incidents. Shooting goes on between the hours of 10am and 6pm.

Lennar, the builder, was allowed to build where they are with the caveat that they disclose the proximity of the range, which they did do in the sale contract. Of course the above mentioned residents didn't read all the sign here and initial there paperwork, or have their own atty. go over it. Apparently most of the sales weasels didn't verbally disclose the info, but it is in writing.

The city told them back in March, too bad so sad, you should have read your contracts. The above mentioned residents still thought they could get it shut down and got in touch our local state senator for NC 41, Natasha Marcus....democrat of course. She got on her high horse and attempted to ride to the rescue and there was a big hearing this past week. After several hours of much wailing and gnashing of teeth, the city once again told them to piss off. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this grand spectacle of ignorance.

I am hoping in the end they will leave the man alone. I have a sneaking suspicion that they aren't done trying.

Link to a local fake news outlet that found some Karen to interview, while there was shooting in progress, who feels there should be a "compromise". I am just guessing the only compromise they are interested in is complete shutdown.....

Notice no mention of any facts about the range. Apparently 10am to 6pm is "all hours of the day".

If you have access to Facebook there is some interesting and some entertaining commentary on Ms. Marcus page....

If they keep trying to screw this guy because they couldn't take the time to check out there surroundings and read the contract, that GRNC can at least try to help.

I'm certain we will face this one day...we will see..

You came to mind when I decided to post this. I hear them from time to time, but don't even know exactly where the entrance is since I heard from the get go that it's very exclusive and couldn't find a listing, so why look. Several of my neighbors and some residents of the Arrington neighborhood would love to be able to shoot there. I know I was hoping that it was public when I moved in. A few have met him and say he's definitely one of the good guys and as I mentioned has an impeccable safety record.

This is the God's Truth..one showed up at the Sherriff's office with a Loaded Round that he said was fired at his house!!!

Same type of deal at a club I used to shoot at only this one was "found" in their swimming pool. Responding deputy happened to be a member of the club. He let them off with a warning about making a false report since it was possible some kid had tossed it in the pool and not the homeowners. He then immediately notified the club board of the incident.

It did have an effect on the club though. Thereafter if you elevated the muzzle of a gun above the back berm you got DQed from the match. After some blowback from shooters they even petitioned USPSA to be allowed to make it a "local match rule" but got turned down. But the club sure was spooked about that swimming pool incident.

Seen the same crap in Union County in Mineral Springs. Stupid people hounded him to no end.

I hope the current owner fights it and fights hard but sadly they often end up losing. If they don’t lose the battle it can also become too much for one person either time and energy or financial or all of the above.

I really do despise people who move into an area and then want to for others to change or shut down what they’ve been doing for years on their own property.

Outdoor ranges are always in peril unfortunately. When I moved here, the closet neighbor was a tad over 1/2 mile away. For years we shot many 1000s of rounds, and then we got surrounded by a Golf Course. Now I have a neighbor 20 foot from one property line. Golf Course maintenance building on the other side less than 75 feet, and just happens to be behind my berm. Was lucky I suppose, before the golf course was build, owners actually came to me to discuss their plans. First words from their mouth "We know, understand what you do here and we do not want to interfere with that and wish to be good neighbors with you!"............ Off to a pretty good start. They lived up to what they said for several years as well. When I was still shooting outside, I was doing test work. It would be 3-5 hours of steady shooting and tests, about 2-3 sessions a week. All big bore rifle stuff, so it was loud. Never once did they complain.

However, as we moved into the future, lots of people were moving in closer, it was a matter of time. And I am going to be honest, if I were a neighbor, it would get on my nerves. I sort of used this as a excuse to build the indoor range I now have. There was much more to it than just the neighbors. When I would do test work outside, I would have to carry everything out to the bench, pressure equipment, chronographs, computers, guns, test loads, and then set everything up. It would take an hour to do all this before the first shot was fired, then take it all down, pack it up, and put it away. This crap was getting old, not to mention tiresome. With an indoor range, I could leave everything set up permanently! This was a tremendous advantage for me and extremely productive. Now, If I only wanted to test a couple of rounds, I just took the rifle out, hooked it up to the equipment and shoot, matter of minutes I would have that data.

It was by far to my benefit to have the indoor range for the work I was doing, not to mention Air Con and Heat! Weather conditions were no longer a concern.

I am quite sure that if I had continued to shoot outdoors, it would have become a problem sooner or later. Funny thing, the husband of our School Superintendent a few years ago happened to have moved to one of the houses on the Golf Course. He was retired, but he loved to shoot. So he would just walk out and shoot across the river. His next door neighbor was not so forgiving, and called the police every time. Police would come but it is still in the county, so nothing they could do. They became very familiar with him, as this became a regular weekly issue. One of the owners of the golf course (trying to sooth the situation) introduced him to me, we became friends and he even ended up building a B&M Rifle, and I helped him set up to do some loading as well. He was a good sort, but still always at war with the neighbor, continuously screwing with him! HEH HEH........... A couple of years ago they moved back to Alabama.

No doubt I have been fortunate and have really enjoyed my indoor range for many reasons. We have some decent soundproofing. Today, no matter what I am shooting, if you are next door and inside, you never know it. If you are outside the range close, then it sounds like someone closed a door.

The mob will just wear the owner down.

This is how they get you. Several of the "implants" get together and somebody knows an attorney and the letters start. I could always move everything so far back that they couldn't even get to me if the LE was called. I'm old maybe they won't be able to get me. More the reason all of Y'all that want to come should Come soon.

Even in the remote county of Alexander has killed off a range that was in progress. Alexander County has a total population of 37,000. Not only the recent people who moved from places in the Northeast but those who moved from Hickory to small acreage mini farms launched a mob to influence the county commissioners.

I received a letter last week that our former Skeet club (land bought by conservation group) had arrange for leasing a piece of land to continue the club. It is in Alexander County. It looked like the officers were set to grade and set up our houses until someone asked if they had obtained the go from the county. That put a stop on the project with no available dates until late September for a presentation.
