Forget the nukes. From now on it will be biological warfare. (I keep thinking this was a test and a most successful one.) You better believe that China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela and others of that ilk are doing everything in their power to develop more and more deadly diseases and their delivery systems. We, of course, are not doing anything like that.

Well, this was super effective. Killed off and entire .0000000000006% of the population.

I don't think we will ever recover.

Factoring in what has happened to the economy, it looks like it hit us pretty hard. I saw the dems saying we could be dealing with this for a decade. If old joe wins it, we are gonna be hearing about and dealing with this crap (or fear of) on some level for some time to come. I hope im wrong.

If Biden wins we will be on total house lockdown including shopping. Except for burning, stealing, and murder.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. A month of protests are already planned before the election. With mail in voting, 'election night' could last a full week, and, unless one side has a landslide of epic proportions, neither side will accept the other winning. Stock up now, and prepare for a bad Christmas.

There is no doubt in my mind based on recent events that we are going to witness and be a part of bad American history after the election. Between now and the end of November make sure you are well supplied in essential needs. You may not want to leave the house.

I don’t know...I thinks any country with a strong enough economy and biomedical industry to engage in biological warfare is ultimately a net loser of it. Similar with EMP type attacks.

yeah Afghanistan would do just fine because they are 200 years behind modern world powers, but the flip side is that means they do t have even close to the technological or financial means of weaponizing organisms or precision thermonuking the upper atmosphere...those that can stand to lose almost as much as us.

Though in a war of self mutilating attrition, China has more people to starve than us, but that seems insane to act on.

It worked perfectly. Our nation is tearing itself apart. All China has to do is swoop in.

There was going to be violence and riots with or without a virus this year. Election year tactics haven’t changed by the Dems in a decade or so. Although without fentanyl and Covid George Floyd would probably still be alive and they would had to pick a different excuse to get the party started. But they were going to do all this regardless of any virus.

I already don't want to leave the house. :(

You don't have to. We're in the middle of a decades-long PSYWAR. If Wu-flu is anything more than an accident it's just a small part of that.

If you think the future of wardare are Russians pouring through the Fulda Gap or en masse warships slugging it out, those days have passed.

If you think China deliberately let loose this virus as an attack on the US, I have ocean-front property in Kansas to sell you....

If you think that cyber, economic, and asymmetrical warfare concomitant with 'brush fire' battles are the future, I would agree.

The use of biologics as WMD incapictants fall in two categories, lethal (i.e., small pox), and LTL (i.e., plague). Of all WMDs, bio is by far the hardest to pull off. Is the US paying attention, studying, and working on ways to identify and counteract biologics? Can't say ;).....

All they have to do is "swoop in"?

Well, good luck to them. I am going to be shooting at them while they do it.

They are not going to "swoop" anywhere; at least not in the western hemisphere. The Chinese are a lot of things, 'dumb' is not one of them. They are students of history, and they saw what happened to Japan before, during, and after WWII. I mean, shoot, Vietnam gave them all they could handle in the 70s. Could they press the button and go full-warfare? Sure. But they know enough to know that they'd go down, hard, even if they go down swinging.

In my view, China is a problem we need to be aware of and treat as if they are a problem.

But the REAL problem we have now is right here in the USA. It's other Americans.

I agree; they are THE problem. But they are going to largely stay where they are, and the type of war they are waging isn't conventional, and it's not going to be conventional*. They are pouring gas on the other problem of which you speak ("other Americans"), which just feeds into their type of warfare.

*This can change

With the planned escalation of street unrest and mail in voting, mail trucks will need a police escort. And given that the localities where the unrest is occurring it is happening precisely because the police have been ordered to stand down to give the mobs room to destroy because the mobs are the vanguard of the Democrat Party that controls those localities, mail trucks are on their own absent federal intervention.

Yeah, this fall will be a genuine [self censored until this thread's inevitable move to Tortuga]-show and it's going to be a long winter.

In the conflict between societies, I doubt biowarfare will be a preferred weapon. We've seen that it is next to impossible to control or contain. Trade and currency attacks for the prelude, then when it's time for the main event cyber warfare to soften the target, EMP for the coup de grace. Remember, in a Mexican standoff, the one who shoots first survives. Getting within the opponent's OODA loop is the high ground.

Oh and the Three Gorges Dam would only take a single cruise missile. A sideshow that has next to zero strategic value.

It was.. and always will be a tactical weapon to catalyze a Secondary Effect. A really good biological weapon kills everything... including the ones that released it so it is not a Kinetic Primary.

This has all the characteristics one would want in Tactical Asymmetrical Weapon. Treatable, Low-Death Rate, High Transmission, Long Incubation, doesn't go away in summer... etc...

But like all Asymmetrical options, there is a psychological effect.. and this has been 100% effective.

Devalued GDP of your adversary, Civil Unrest, Shutdowns, and observational analysis will show every weak point in the adversary's fabric. Like @Howland said... this virus has disrupted our OODA loop in terms of Statecraft. Because we have 3 Branches of Govt with 2 main parties... cannot present a unified front.

Smart....

You're forgetting some things:
1.) has locked down China twice now
2.) This has disrupted flows of goods out of China to other countries, causing hiccups in the supply line that makes companies want to shift to other areas like Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan
3.) This has also affected flow of goods into the country which, combined with the locust plague on their western borders, and monsoons causing flooding, killing crops and livestock in their heartland, has started the beginning of a food shortage in the country. On top of that, for nationalist reasons, they shut off the importation of meat from their largest meat trade partner, Australia(and we picked them up just as quickly).
4.) This has, along with their seizing goods being shipped out, and making short sighted power moves, started to localize resentment against the country, and mobilize stuff against them. The collapse of the One Belt, One Road initiative has accellerated. Japan is now remilitarizing, and opening talks with Malaysia, India, Phillipines, and India for a united front with the US. These countries are also doing their own pushbacks(Australia calling out China and putting limits on their purchases in country, Malaysia indicting people involved in OBOR, India and their border fight with China, etc).
5.) This has galvanized countries to push back against China, for example, a high level Trump member visiting Taiwan, first in 4 decades.
6.) This, combined with their housing bubble, is causing enormous strain on the economy of China at the worst moment, when they are trying to transition from a manufacturing economy to a service one.

You see a grand conspiracy, masterfully pulled off. I see a bumbling country, making misstep after misstep, acting short sighted and looking inwards, when they should be building bridges. Time will tell who's right, but I'm betting I am. I expect it to take 10 years, but I expect China to be isolated again, most manufacturing gone, and the economy sputtering. Basically, a return to the 1980's China. They pushed too far, too quick, and alienated too many.

Agree with you... I dont' think it was planned; but if one would plan to effect your adversary this would be the way.

Regarding China:
1. Regional Lockdowns... but has not affected workforce. (Immigrant Prefecture Workers work those factories)
2. Has not disrupted flows of goods for more than the initial 45 days... They are literally producing MORE in consumables and durable goods.
3. Chinese companies are building factories in Vietnam, Thailand to escape Tariffs.... But Foodstuffs have hit China hard.. true.
4. All correct.. except.. they did get Hong Kong 27 years early didn't they?
5. Correct... Countries are pushing back on China... except for the commerce... follow the money... Think USSR-USA Cold War, except they were extremely intertwined trading partners.
6. True... but they have written down many of the interior cities they build 20 years ago that are still ghost towns. And they are setting on a devalued currency and 20+ Years of Dollar Trade Surplus.

The thing that China has right now is Unification. They are a united people. They have to be or you get shot. But they believe that their time is now to lead the world. Every. Single. Chinese. That's a billion thinking about how they can lead the world.

There is no way that this ridiculous response could have been predicted. We've had a history of much deadlier outbreaks of viruses and the public response has never been this drastic. This is a combination of a slow news day and the press and Government throwing out a red herring to distract us from more damning issues. Now for some reason the topic has snowballed and no one can admit that the sky is not falling.

But they believe that their time is now to rule the world. Every. Single. Chinese. That's four million CCP party members in good standing thinking about how they can rule the world.

FIFY. They place the same value on even Chinese non party members with the same value as the rest of the world'spopulation. Beasts of burden, debt slaves, organ donors, sex toys and agricultural supplements. Nothing more.

They may not have predicted it but they are learning a lot about we respond.

Which is not very well. We would rather fight R vs. D than to solve the problem. Even our doctors and scientist are so beholding to one side or the other that they will not report anything without slanting to the R or D.

It's like a cat and dog fighting as the house is burning down.
