2018 F150.
Wired for trailer but no brake controller.
The OEM is $90 on eBay and I'd need to pay someone to do the software portion.

Is there a better option?

My f250 has it factory. imho it seems to work better than the prodigy I had in the last truck

More responsive, cleaner look if yours in built in

Mine aslo has an anti sway sensor/setting that wasn't on the prodigy

You can use FORSCAN to program the controller, 4:15 on the video.

I installed a Tekonsha P3 in my F150 (2014) when I had it. I just bought the correct harness for it. Never had any problems with it. I don't remember having to do any software stuff.

My F150 came with the factory brake controller. I have only used it once but it worked fine. Much cleaner than aftermarket options I have seen in the past. For asthetics alone I think I would go for the factory option.

OEM & forscan. I was quoted around $90 to enable it with the dealer Ids software.

Edit : If you go the forscan route, don't forget to enable bambi mode. Fogs stay on with high beams.

Same here, controller in the F250 works great. I have the gain set so that the trailer pulls on the hitch a little when I'm on the brakes, keeps everything going in a straight line if I have to brake hard.
