Your latest alcohol purchase

I would say somewhere in the middle. It’s not a hint because you can taste it for sure but not to strong either. I read where people add grape liquor to it and it tastes like a PB&J sandwich.

Overall it’s just something fun to have a glass of when you just want something a little different.

Basil Hayden or Makers 46 are my go to drinks.

Cool, thanks. May have to try that. Some of those flavored whiskey's leave a bad aftertaste, and that's a no go with me, lol. I'm usually a Jefferson or Basil Hayden's, neat kinda guy, but like to try something different every now and again.

Basil Hayden with ice is my drink! Everything else is just for a little variety.
I bought some mixers this week as well to make an Old Fashioned. It works pretty well.

Did a little drivin and trading today.

The only bottle I actually purchased was the Russell's Reserve Single Barrel because it is a store (or ABC Board) pick.

I had to make a whirlwind drive to Kentucky yesterday to buy a pile of subsonic 9mm to have for shows. Got to the meeting spot 10 minutes before the seller, so I ran into the big liquor store across the road and told them I had 10 minutes for them to load me up on Kentucky bourbon that they like and that I can’t get in NC.

This ought to keep me from getting thirsty for a while. I’ve had the Willett, but not any of the other. Everything I grabbed I have not seen in NC, though that doesn’t mean we can’t get it.

If I buy ammo from this distributor again, I am going to plan more time for the liquor store.

Also learned that concealed and open carry is both legal and welcome in KY liquor stores.

I picked up a bottle of Aberlour 12 single malt, double cask. I've had it before and it is excellent, IMHO. It is better to me than the Aberlour 16, especially at the price difference. Also grabbed a bottle of Michter's Small Batch to try. And lastly, I got a bottle of the TX blended whiskey, which looked interesting.

East of Here, if you’re an Aberlour fan, try this one! One of the Whiskey Advocates whiskey of the year last year. Delicious! Cheers!

I am new to it, but it really is very good. I tried the 16 and the 12 a few weeks ago, and this 12 was much better to my tastes. If I see that one, I will try it too.

He is in a free-er state than we are, when it comes to spirits.
And guns. Lol

That was a trip through Illinois. Downside there is not any controls on pricing so some stuff gets stupid expensive.

Saw blantons gold on the shelf for $349.99, it stayed there too.

Guy at the KY liquor store told me the NEW RIFF was an up and comer and now was the time to try it. He was right. Very smooth. So smooth you forget it is 100 proof and it is easy to have a bit too much....

That is how the J.T.S. Brown B.I.B. is. You can almost drink it like sweet tea. But it'll sneak up on you pretty quick. I liked it so much, I tracked down a few more bottles before it was all gone. Apparently, it is not allocated, but is a special order item that most stores can't/won't get. I will now be on the lookout for New Riff...

So I'm beginning to think there is a scamish marketing gimmick going on with the bourbons. There have been several of us who have found Makers bottles marketed with names related to the area they are sold in. I won't lie I've bought both at $75 per bottle thinking they were a bit better than normal. Today a friend, she sent me a picture of a Woodford Reserve bottle named "Ironclad Woodford" which reflected the CSS Ram Neuse in Kinston for $49. Are we seeing these makers trying to boost up normal bourbon by giving it a regional name? Or are they taking their better/best barrels and blending a more premium blend?

Special barrels. The reps go around to the businesses promoting they purchase their own barrel. The store picks are typically pretty good.

Was running a little low on the Pilar Rum so when to pick up another bottle and came home with the Pilar Spanish Sherry Casks.

I tried that Mckenna for the first time a month ago or so. That's some damn good juice!

I am glad to hear that. I bought it to try, as I had heard good things about it. But sometimes, you hear wrong. I've been rolling the dice on a few new bottles lately.

Blanton's is great but not at the prices I've seen lately. North of $100 is overpriced, says me. I just picked up the Woodinville. It's good, I'm not sure it's one I would get again.
Was going to say the same thing. Gave the bottle away one night to a guy that liked it. Same guy said that batch 12 tasted like rocket fuel.

Generally, if we don't find it locally in the ABC, we are not going to buy it on the secondary/private market at a mark-up. And as a single barrel, the quality varies and there are some "bad" barrels out there, I hear. A couple of years back, one of my brothers got a really bad bottle of Blanton's. Might've been from the same batch as the rocket fuel.

As an aside, I would REALLY like to find another bottle of the Michter's Sour Mash Toasted Barrel. I would break down and pay a bit of a premium for another bottle of that one. I liked that one a lot.

Not a bad week! Unlike our friend Thrillhill, I had to pay for these, but just retail. I consider that a win! Cheers!

The toasted barrel is tasty
Great! I can’t wait to try it. The Micters toasted barrel I have been nursing for several years is delicious and I hoped this was similar.
BOG, have you tried the Micters TB?

The michters is far superior, but the EC will suffice till they do another run of the michters

Damn I am definitely doing something wrong with where I am shopping and Im hitting stores in 3 states fairly regular just not near heavy populated areas.

It has been my experience that most stores hold back the good stuff for regulars and V.I.P.s (like local ABC Board members). You have to build a relationship with the managers and employees to get access to the better bottles. Also, you have to buy some of the middle shelf stuff along the way as a good faith buy-in to the game. If you are just another flipper or somebody that just wants to cherry pick the good stuff out from under their regulars, they are never gonna let you into the circle of trust.

Yeah I have found that to be the case as well. I am not a flipper nor am I greedy just want a fair shake

Just to be clear, I was speaking in general terms, not directing any labels at you. But we are mostly all in that same boat and unless you are a 'regular', the folks in the store have no way of knowing whether you are a legitimate drinker or an opportunistic flipper. Plus, if there is not enough to go around for everyone, then there can be nothing really fair about the distribution process anyway. Somebody gets a bottle and somebody doesn't. The rest of us can only just continue to drop in on truck days and hope to eventually get lucky. In the meantime, I plan to keep on sampling and enjoying what is available, and playing the game.

Not getting anything really special but picked up 3 today. Never had the Bradshaw Bourbon (103.8 proof). I like buying gift packs and saw the Bulleit while in the check out line. Wish they were copper cups. My son said that he was not able to find any Eagle Rare in Atlanta so I guess that bottle will be going up there.
