Easter weekend of 1995, my dad's very large gun safe was stolen from my parent's home in Concord. The theives did $7000 damage (1995 dollars) to the house getting it out. The empty safe, having been cut open with an abrasive saw, was found by a farmer in one of his fields near Pageland, SC.

Twenty years later, this happened: Pageland Man Arrested

The Cabarrus County Sheriff's department claims to be working with Chesterfield County LE and SLED on this case, and they have contacted my mom regularly to make sure they had accurate contact info, but they aren't helpful beyond that. The last I heard, all those thousands of guns were still piled up in the armory in Chesterfield. I suspect that some, or most, of my dad's guns are in the pile.

This was a traumatic event for my family, especially for my dad, of course; and really turned me off of owning guns, or anything else of significant value, for 20 years or so. I really didn't get back into firearms until just before I joined up with you other miscreants.

Do any of you folks (@kcult , @BatteryOaksBilly ) have any info on this case? Does anybody know any Chesterfield LE or SLED personnel that could shed some light on the disposition of these guns?

If my dad's guns are in there, they are probably rusty, beat-up hulks; but I want them back anyway.

Hmm. I haven't heard anything recently, but I think the easiest thing to do is call the Chesterfield County sheriff's department and leave a message for sheriff Dixon. We call him JD.

If you decide to go that route, let me know and I'll give you my name to drop when he calls you back.

That's pretty darn decent of you.

I have a couple buddies that may still be with SLED from back in the day. I can check in with them to see where they're at and get any information they may have for you if you want.

I'm not going to ask how you and JD know each other. I knew a lot of the deputies about 15-20 years ago, but I'm betting most of them are gone. Most of my contacts worked for Sam Parker

And Sam spent a few years in federal prison. Not going to be seen talking to him. I'll talk to his brother Ricky, but that's it.

I wouldn't have a problem being seen talking to him. He was only convicted of misconduct. Hell, I've been accused of misconduct just about everywhere I've been if I stayed for any length of time.

That would be great if it's not too much trouble.

I'm actually acquainted with a couple of SLED agents, but haven't had contact with them in a lot of years. They are likely retired.

No problem at all. I’ll reach out and see what they’re up to.

I had a conversation with a ChesCo deputy today, and he confirmed that all the guns with serial numbers were checked against the FBI's stolen guns database, at least three times: by the ChesCo Sheriff's department, ATF, and SLED. If any of my dad's guns had been in the pile, we would have been contacted.

He was very knowledgeable about the case, and very forthcoming with information, super nice and helpful.

I have added a post to the Stolen Firearms thread with a mostly-complete list of my father's stolen guns attached.

Thanks for all the help and support.

Another, completely unrelated Chesterfield County connection:

My late uncle, Doug Stowe, was a gunsmith (and career machinist, and Baptist minister) who lived in Mt Croghan. He passed away on Valentines Day, 2015. He stopped smithing quite a few years before that due to Parkinson's.

I wonder if any of you locals might have known him.

I had a brain dump this week so I'm sorry I never got back to you. My guys aren't with SLED anymore, moved on to bigger and better things and cut ties with the department. :(

Same^^^^^ One of my Oldest Pards was a Chesterfield County Depittty. His claim to fame was he was having "relations" with a nurse from over there. He parked his patrol car in her hay barn so His wife wouldn't ride by and see the car in the yard. Welllllllll, he says ain't nuthin in the world that will Kill an ErekTion like looking out the winder and seein the barn that yo patrol car is in On Fire!! Yep, burned up the car, the barn and his Marriage.
Still to this day, when I think about that and conjure up that situation it still makes me :D:D:D:D:D:D:D!

I remember that story. Anybody know how much time he got?
Don't quote me on this but if he had just resigned when all the crap hit the fan, he would have not been charged and still got his pension. He was retired from SLED already I think. But with being forced out and convicted of misconduct, he lost all of his retirement with the county and I'm not sure if it had any bearing on his pension from SLED or not.
