Check it out. Kelly's dad just gave me this to clean up and oil, and generally check out. It's a 1972 Security-Six 357. This thing has a pretty good trigger for something that has not been messed with in 20 years. Anyway, I like it, and hope to maybe one day be able to get it.IMG_20200903_174305378~2.jpg

I had one of those once. Traded it for 300 surplus mags a week before Sandy Hook in 2012. I made out like a bandit though I miss the pistol

Remind me to show you it's much Mortified same year twin when you get here.

I've got a 4" in stainless love it, swapping the trigger for a smooth one so it doesn't keep raking skin off. Very durable, well made and strong revolver. Only reason the gp100 came along was because of it not having enough lock "points" to withstand lots of excessive magnum shooting.

Just sold my 4" SS Sec 6. Stayed in bedside table for 30 yrs. Rarely shot it and everytime I picked it up I was constantly regripping. Any gun that I own that I do that with, I get rid of (eventually since it only took me 30yrs). They are great guns. I have an SP101 to replace it. Brownells made a tool to help take down and reassemble the trigger group from the frame. It is lovingly called a ruger popper. A quick look on Brownells website did not find it. Looks like a bent screw driver with hook instead of blade.

I had one just like it except with Hogue grips. Solid built revolver.

We need to cut the barrel back to 2.5-3” and you will be in business

Well, I went over to give it back to Kelly's dad earlier this week. I put it in a nice new holster, all cleaned up and oiled, and looking good. He pulled it out of the holster, looked it over, and handed it back to me. He said, I don't know when that gun has looked so good, you should keep it. I just stared at him, lol. He laughed and said, you will take better care of it than I will, and you will wind up with it anyway (Kelly is an only child), so take it back with you. Of course I thanked him a bunch, and told him he always know's where it's at. Now I need to choot it.

Find yourself some NOS Remington or Federal 125 Grain Jacketed Hollapenjinas. When you set 'em off the birds'll stop singing!!!!! Earl Suggs

Sounds like Kelly's dad recognizes what a fine fellow you are. Congrats on the new gun.

Let me know when you are coming back to the Oaks and I'll bring an assortment of 38 and .357 ammo for you to try in your new gun. I bet I have a nice set of walnut target grips that will fit it as well.

He Obviously doesn’t know you bring 25 guns to the range all thrown into a book bag does he?

Got my hands on one yesterday, for the first time. Bubba that I am, we had to take it apart. What a brilliant design...reminded me of JMB’s kinda thoughtful work.

Now I want one!

Yah, just mention taking a revolver apart around @Jeppo... tools are already on the counter, and he musta already had that youtube video up (Disassemble Sec Six Using Only a Dime). But what a surprise inside the Security Six! All the works are attached to the trigger, except the pawl. No side plate... frame and grip are one machining. This'n looked like it was rarely fired.

Yours looks like a first year production. The backstrap sits lower on yours. The design was changed in the second year of production for a higher backstrap. Grips from later years will not fit properly without modification.

Yep, it has a lower production ser. #. I was able to date it to 1972.

Original, and aftermarket, grips are very hard to find for the first "low back" Security Six revolvers.

I have the 151 series in 4”, blued.
It’s a tank and I have taken a few does from under my stand with it.

I've never had a Ruger revolver that wasn't a great shooting tank. I've had a couple I wasn't keen on the grips of, but that's been my only complaint ever.

@rantingredneck & I ran some of those Rem 125gr over the chronograph from my 6.5" Blackhawk & got between 1675 & 1710-ish fps. Smoking round.
