Next up? Stump grind then Firepit!

Got her talked into it and she's sending me pictures of ideas.

900 lbs of limbs to Meck Co recycling. Truck gas, tire wear over 20 miles, $36 dump fee, and a little electricity for the saw. I could not see spending $300 for someone else to take it down.

Oh, I got my exercise for today and have firewood too!

I have no problem claiming ignorance.

Two French Medoc regions famous for cabernet-based red wines - same general area, but Margaux is to the south and Pauillac (la Tour, the Rothchilds) to the north (the Medoc is on the left bank or west side of the Gironde river). So the idea being "the same and yet different."

Burn that stump out don’t bother to grind it ... build you a temporary fire pit around it and burn it out it might take a few fires but it will disappear. I’ve taken an old steel drum, cut it in half, set it over a stump and burned more stumps out than I care to remember.

Seems a bit more refined than I'm accustomed to, it was straight up beer in Calais. Wine didn't come into play until I found myself if Strasburg.

Decided to do just this. Not.

Can @Butter get this man a burn barrel to have said proper burning place?

Still in the planning but I'm thinking a 2.5ft diameter surrounded by stones, something like this. A steel insert inside that can be lifted out for cleaning and have adjustable air slots.

More will be added to the outside of the pit but that is the starting point.

Real men use gas operated chainsaws.

KMA, it will still take a chunk out of you just as fast. Plus its no fun to try and pull start on top of a ladder. You know it will stall out and need to be restarted. Murphy.

Hold on... Weren't you in on the battery operated saw thread?!?

Built a small sifter and put it to work. Got 4 good sized piles a great dirt. A little more of wood/root mix to be pitched.

This morning we sifted the rest and dug out a few roots that might be in the way. Smoothed it out just before the rain.

Next is marking it out and looking at stone.

this is mine. 36" or 39" interior, with a total width of 48" it has the steel grate that attaches and you can fold it up or lay it down and cook on. if you build one with the blocks, don't worry about the draft, there will be enough cracks between the blocks for air flow.

This is what we did back in April. It's about to get some heavy use time with the weather changing.

Question for the firewood splitters of the group: Do those splitters that you drive in shaped like a 4 sided to a point, work well?

I can't remember who the member was, but their fire pit was in the ground. I liked the idea of covering it with a (I think) wooden top so he could mow the lawn without having to cut a circle around the pit. He just drove over it.

I’m about to start one here real soon. Putting down pavers for a 15x15 and using my fire bowl.

Even with the rain I took a vacation day today to complete "the ring". At least there's no mud and shoveling will be easier.

Did that thing pass the HOA guidlines?
It’s bigger than your shed.

:p

Funny thing is there's nothing about fire pits just pools and fountains.

Need to find 13 more bricks and something to use as a cap rock. After a month or two it will need some adjustment and another 1/2yd of rocks.

Very nice ... and near perfect timing to start enjoying the fruits of your labor! What chairs are you going with ... Adirondacks maybe?

Ever think of a shelf on your shed (like under the window) to place a small stereo or such for some good music while you sit by the fire enjoying an adult beverage and pondering the meaning of life?

I made it with enough room for Adirondacks. The lounge type and the smaller seat type. Set of four.

Decided to make two tables, maybe a bench? Not sure...

On the railing is a BT speaker, works perfect.
