RCBS RC-II

Redding Decapping/Resizing Die

So finally got around to setting this up, up stroke, no sticking, but on the downstroke the case mouth is getting stuck on the decapping rod. I took the die apart, cleaned it with degreaser, light swipe of oil. The cases are freshly fired, never touched the ground, and not tumbled or otherwise prepped. Using a small amount of case lube on the body.

I’ve tried cleaning the inside and outside of the case neck with a bore brush, but still, sticking to the point of feeling like I’m going to pop the case head off.

Anyone with more smarts than me have any idea whats happening or what I’m doing wrong here?

Yes, add some lube inside the necks.

I think all of the the Redding decapping rods have replaceable expanders. The standard expander is steel, but they have optional carbide expanders, and that made a huge difference on my 223 die, much less effort to pull the expander through the neck.

Lube the inside of your necks with a brush, or even a qtip if need be and try again,
"Lube" it helps on everything fun in life :D

But also know this
Brass brands vary in neck thickness, you can take brass from Winchester and run it thru your die and may not have any binding.
unless your using bushing dies, a standard die cannot be adjusted for neck thickness, so they get squeezed to what ever the die is set at from factory
it is then opened up to the sized needed by the decapping rod ball sizer,
brass that has had many workings and has not been annealed will also bind due to hardness

After a few stuck cases of my own, I ordered a RCBS Stuck Case kit (tap, cap screw, other things) this week. The work with a vise, wrenches was becoming less successful.
