It's funny as hell that all these years, I have Customer's, students, Alumni that I interact with on here and other sites.

I do not know, follow or even care who I (internet fight with) or get in a heated posting. Not one time have I ever said to myself " John shut the F--k up, you are loosing Customer's"

So I say this, I hope you can be honest with yourself. Because it's all you got..

John

I think that evidence would show that bombastic statements leading to Internet fighting would increase exposure and probably increase revenues for you...but I don't want to fight about it.

I am not a customer although hopefully someday I will be, but I have a theory. It seems to me that most people on this site and the other gun site or two I occassionally mess around on are all pretty thick skinned and mature. They don't seem to take internet battles as being overly personal. Other sites I have been on are a tad different.

I disagree with people on the internet all the time. I'm sure there are people on here who think I'm a d!¢π
Then there are the people who have actually met me.
I know @billyh actually said to me when we left an eatery down around Sanford, as he was shaking my hand, "You may seem like a bit of a d!¢π, but you are a good guy". Something like that.

Dang. I think I was changing shirts for the third time there in the Peruvian Charcoal Chikn parking lot when that happened, and missed it. Which one of you did he say it to?

@JBoyette its all in how you handle it and what you do or say and it makes a difference. There is another merchant on here whose location I shopped at once but didn't identify myself, even walked out with a decent amount of merchandise. I was involved in a heated discussion with someone back on the Canadian site I thought was being a complete and obnoxious a-hole and this merchant was "liking" his posts. I sent him a pm pointing out that when he uses his business identity to take a stand on something that it becomes a reflection of his business (note, this is akin to you posting as JBoyette vs Trace Armory). Over time, I thought about going back to his store on multiple ocassions and recalled that conversation and decided to order online instead. Those "likes" very much cost him.

I keed, I keed

I know I'm an asshole sometimes, hell, I've got the t shirt to prove it! Just ask my wife!

Being bombastic, whether taking a right or wrong position, worked well for James Yeager, Larry Vickers, and scads of others. Lots of gun guys like bombastic. But, it can reach a point of diminishing returns, like with Yeager.

You teach firearm manipulation and "gun fighting" for a living. So, to be honest, I kinda want you to be rough around the edges. You aren't teaching etiquette, you are teaching people how to lower your chances of being perforated in a gun fight.

You want someone to stroke your ego and blow butterflies and Daisy's up your keister then go to Chdamns house.

With all that said, I have >always< been very respectful and loving to everyone I have met here and elsewhere. I have >never< rubbed anyone the wrong way...

Well...at least in the last few hours.

You and me went at it once. We've been cool ever since. Sometimes you gotta throw some dirt around to really get to know a person.

I certainly am NOT an asshole. Well, maybe just a little sphincter...

Anyone who's ever been on a jobsite with me would most likely disagree...

All you "tactical" guys are the same. A big gruff personality that sells cool guys classes. You teach wanna be seal guys stuff they dont need, about guns that nobody really needs to own. Now if you will excuse me l, i have a few more lever actions to rub with an old cloth diaper. :)

But, isn't that the way it's supposed to work? We favor those whose opinions if with ours and dislike those that don't. Isn't it better that the individual/company disclosed their colors rather than hid them for the sake of business? You know, like an anti-2A company running a gun focused website, because there's money in it?
Potentially bad for business, yes. But, I'd rather know who I'm dealing with. I'll spend the money with those I like.
That's the risk a business owner takes, expose your views and potentially bring like minds to you or you might drive others away. Alternatively, stay neutral or rather quiet for business sake. This runs the risk of being disingenuous to one's self.

I have an opinion on damned near everything. Often it runs contrary to what seems to be the majority opinion round here, I don't really care what anyone here thinks about me, but most times engaging in debate just isn't worth the effort so I rarely do. I also don my foil hat sometimes and think this post will get brought up in an interview someday and delete instead of posting.

I've met a few of the members in person, no issues that I know of, judging them by the crap they post on here? First I'd have to remember it, that's a pretty high bar if I read the thread more than an hour ago. If they're linked to a business, directly or the known proprietor I suppose they have a chance of losing me as a customer as the business may make the individual's content memorable, but it hasn't happened yet I don't have too many triggers for disdain.

Shakespeare said it very well in Hamlet, when Polonius said:

This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.

If you are honest and truthful, and it's in your nature to be thus, then you never have to worry about keeping track of all the lies you'd otherwise spout.

Oh, and by the way...with regards to ANY argument, internet or otherwise, comporting yourself with honor and integrity is the way to go.

Regardless of how heated things may be, I can shake hands with, and drink a beer with, anybody with honor and integrity when things are all said and done.

Lot of truth to that.

I was told in a Nuclear Operations class once.

Experience is what you need when you do not have it. This is why we train...

Same here. Funny how there are some that can't differentiate this from the real world

Integrity is in SHORT supply in today's world.

Well said.

If I lose a couple of customers because I voice my opinion those probably aren't the customers I wanted anyway
Funny position to take: you don't want customers, members of this site, who are amongst the most active and vocal in the industry that is your bread and butter.
