Ruiz held up the book — described by County Attorney James Brue as a hardcover encyclopedia — and Perez pulled the trigger on a .50-caliber Desert Eagle pistol, trying to see whether the bullet would go through, according to the criminal complaint.

A few hours before the shooting, a posting went up on Perez's Twitter account that read: "Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever. HIS idea not MINE." The note included two wide-eyed emoji faces and another of a eye-covering monkey with a gaping mouth.

Freaking idiots.
These people arent helping our cause.

Saw this earlier - and it's up to us to get in front of it and point out the lapses in judgement that lead to the guy's death - the stupidity that is often the product of social media and the quest for fake internet friends, fake internet followers, and fake internet points - and how none of that is worth your life.

It's up to us to point out the 4 cardinal safety rules of firearms handling, how following any ONE of the four prevents this in its entirety.

Unreal, the shit people do for their 15 minutes. Now a man is dead, a pregnant mother jailed, a 4 year old effectively orphaned and the unborn to likely become a ward of the State as soon as it draws its first breath.

What a fateful and destructive decision.

I'd "like"this, but I don't want to perpetuate any fake internet points.

Yeah but now hes dead so whats the fun in it. So a 50 DE shoots through an encyclopedia! They should advertise this.

Would anyone know what an encyclopedia is?

Encyclopedia lives matter...

They wanted to be famous.

Too bad they did not test the book alone to be sure it would stop the bullet.

From the article in the first post:

He had shown her another book that he had shot and the bullet didn't go all the way through, the charging document continued.

And from the FoxNews article:

The couple had apparently tested the stunt before attempting it on video.

There is just no rationalizing this. It's beyond stupid and he paid the ultimate price while she'll have to tell their 2 kids "I killed daddy".

Looks like they did not use the same book.

I didn't read the Fox story, I read about it on another news feed.

The tragedy is that the young man was, it seems, very responsible in all other areas of his life. Not many 22 year olds own a home.
Some lefty will find a way to blame YouTube then blame Trump since the victim and the murderer are Hispanic. What do you bet at least one of their parents is illegal?

Thusly, the gene pool is cleansed.....

From the article:
She quoted him as replying, " 'Because we want more viewers. We want to get famous.' "

I never understood why our younger generation places so much worth on how many social media "Likes" or "Followers" they have from people they'll probably never know. Or why they think everyone wants to hear every little detail of their lives. It's a sad commentary on our values today.

Money.
All those followers and views on youtube leads to paychecks.

But some just like the attention, too.

As much as this is a stupid tragic story maybe at least the 4 year old and the unborn child might have a chance if the mother stays in jail. They might go to a good family and have a fresh start in life.

Never rely on Classics Illustrated when the original is available.

Nothing I've read said anything about whether she even hit the book, so I'm thinking she didn't. I'm betting she either missed or hit a glancing blow.

Maybe if they had used the encyclopedia for its intended purposes and looked up guns they would have learned that this was a bad idea!

I understand that he tried this on another book before attempting the stunt.
Oh, its definitely a terrible idea, but he had false confidence based on a trial run

I didn't say but she must have used one of those high power assault pistols with the 30 caliber magazine clips. Those are extra dangerous against Harry Potter body armor.

It's the attention. Back in early Myspace days, we opened for many a band that would constantly brag about their Myspace followers and use it as a bargaining chip for being the lead act. We always obliged, destroyed the venue as the opener (or chased off everybody) and proceeded the drink the rest of the night and pull half their crowd outside to drink and screw around with us. I'm sure there are some dollar signs in a few eyes, but some people just clamor for the validation that comes with views and likes, only to use those virtual thumbs up so support their so-called expertise.

To paraphrase a smarter man, remember, even if a lot of people like you, think how stupid most people are, and remember that half of them are dumber than that.
