How to Make and Eat a Tomato Sandwich

Tonight for me, BLT's with Duke's, cherokee purple tomato.
Home grown. That englishter, and some others here have to learn how to do it right.
Sugar, cheese? WTF

I'm from Indiana so we ate miracle whip. I am not a fan of dukes or any brand of mayo. It's all about personal preference my friend.

What the heck is up with this:

I'm seeing that generic IMG thing way too often lately.

You're the one putting mayo in there. A cheddar and tomato sandwich is about the best thing ever. Especially with a dash of Branston.

I was just starting to like you given my British roots, but you have crossed the line here. You'll get one more chance Brit! :p

Baseball sucks and is a children's game card Rounders.

Apple pie is French.

The Statue of Liberty is French.

Fries are French.

Football should be called Handegg.

I want those back taxes.

That do it? ;)

The brand of mayo is not important. Toasted bread is nice if you've got the time.

I have eaten tomato sandwiches until I got sores inside my mouth. Since I quit eating bread I just have sliced tomatoes with salt and pepper.

This gal knows a thing or two about eating a mater sandwich.

Another thing equally as good as a mater sandwich is a mater biscuit. The mater biscuit was a big hit in the mountains. A good mater on a leftover biscuit with some salt and pepper, didn't even need mayo for a mater biscuit.

I've never eaten a slice of tomato on a biscuit, but I'd imagine it is good and similar in taste to tomato gravy. I grew up eating tomato gravy, still love it to this day.

Tenderloin biscuit with a slice of tomato on it is good.

Slice of onion and Dukes mayo on a biscuit.

Just Dukes on a biscuit.

Can you tell that I love Dukes mayo?

This whole thread makes me gag. How anyone can eat a tomato sandwich is beyond me.

Honestly I used to hate tomatoes. Not on a burger, sandwich, salad, anything. I didn't mind them cooked though, like in spaghetti or tomato gravy. Only in the past 5-6 years have developed a taste for them.

I can only eat cherry or grape tomatoes. I don't know why the the big ones literally make me gag. It wasn't until I was in boot camp and REALLY hungry that I started eating the small ones because they came in the crappy box chow they gave us.

That's funny, because I don't care for the little ones at all.

My sister was like that growing up. I didn't like ketchup all that much, spaghetti sauce was ok and loved tomatoes. She could have lived on ketchup and wouldn't have eaten a slice of tomato on a bet...

I like fresh slice maters with breakfast, mater sammich for lunch, and maters at supper time. Can I get an Amen? :)

Amen.

My mother used to cook maters in a cast iron skillet and pour them on flour bread in the mornings........and of course mater sandwiches at dinner, and more maters from the cast iron skillet poured into a pot of rice in the evenings at supper time.

The only time we ever even heard about "lunch" was when school was in session. Still don't know where that word came from or how it made it down South without our permission.

:eek::mad:

Lunch this afternoon...
Some kind of dark purple heirloom mater, Duke's mayo, & Sunbeam Queen bread.

Yes, dripping over the railing. :)

And the sprinkle of salt along with the heavy dusting of black pepper just rings the bells of Southern goodness. No wonder our region has always attracted those from other regions who never knew about our natural secrets here.

:D:D

This might be a sin but...... I've never tried Blue Plate mayonnaise before... never even heard about it till this thread. I've had Hellmen's and Duke's and even most box store brand mayo. Found some B-P mayo and going to give it a try tonight.

I'll let ya know how it compares....

Walmart has Blue Plate, very similar to Dukes.
I think you'll be hard pressed to tell them apart.

OK, well, if some of y'all are speaking highly of this Blue Plate mayo, I will give it a try.

Can't never could do anything, so I'm willing to try....:)

They are very close in taste. I'm pleasantly surprised.... it was a little less expensive than Duke's. I'd say Duke's had a tiny bit more tanginess to it (which I like). If I could not find Duke's, I'd put Blue Plate next in line. :)

Never knew anything other than Dukes and Merita bread growing up. I'm not gonna knock what I've never tried but Dukes and Merita is pretty tough competition.
