Fresh off the heels of a certain editor of the Winston Journal mentioning this (truly, I didnt realize it was there until about two or three weeks ago when I was walking around downtown for the thousandth time), the CSA monument on 4th has been vandalized.
The base was Spray painted with...well, I dont know what it says, the statue at the top was not damaged.

I had this discussion with a colleague yesterday, specifically about WS monument, and here we are.

One onlooker told the paper, "Balenton said he was OK with the statue’s defacing because “it gets us away from the Confederate mindset.”

Sophia Pappalardo of Winston-Salem accompanied Balenton as they stood in front of the statue. She said that all Confederate statues in the country should be removed.

“It’s a threat to different groups, such as black and brown people as well as Native Americans,” Pappalardo said. “It’s a threat to anyone who is different from the white majority. It’s a symbol of hate.”"

Well I'm melanin enriched and I don't view a CSA monument or REL statue as a threat to me. What I do view as a threat is the spread of Marxism (and history is chock full of well over one hundred MILLION dead bodies to substantiate that viewpoint).

Many did not know it was there until a few days ago when it was published in the local paper and the editor caught a ton of flak for it

Its not a threat to you or anyone else.

So tired of this same old whiney crap, my life is this because of that or my life sucks because of this, NO, your life sucks because of you.

Either work on it or shut the crap up.

Blacks fighting for the Southern cause?? That can't be right! Surely you jest!

/sarc

They were really white dudes in masks, or so my professor in anarcho-socialist wymin's studies told me. I majored in Feminist Outrage with a minor in Eeeeeeeevil White Men.

Now I could see blackface.....

No that was when the the Eeeeeeeevil White Dudes were posing as Islamic slave traders to discredit the religion of peace.

I'm not much of a history student and the entire course work back home on the War of Northern Agression is a meme of a man in a bowler hat shrugging with the caption "silly bloody Colonials". Read an interesting article someone linked to on Facebook about the various tariffs and taxation scams that the USG used to bleed the South dry while stacking the deck in the North's favour. I'm amazed it took so long. Which is apparently why they had to pin the war in a nice emotion issue like slavery.

Sounds a lot like the crap they still pull today. Politicians, they apparently don't even evolve.

Yes, it's true. Hundreds of thousands of poor white and black southerners all marched off to war because of their dislike of black folks.

Slavery was and always will be the driving force behind secession. But if you read into the actual secession documents more than a snippet from the above website you will see that the angst is against the northern states using their influence in what was considered an illegal manner.

Imagine, if you would, the anti-gun sentiment in California and other 2A hostile states were to spread. Those states begin to pressure 2A friendly states into changing their laws to align with gun confiscation. Tariffs are placed on all NC goods because of our ownership of firearms. Any firearms located outside of NC, even those stolen and taken to an Anti-state are confiscated by the state and destroyed. The pro-2A states declare that they are, rightfully so, being abused based on the clear reading of the 2nd Ammendment and their citizens are being treated in a tyrannical way by the rest of the union, so they decide that independence from the Anti states is the best course of action.

A war is fought. 150 years later firearms in private ownership is illegal. Instead, we can only rent them from the government. Firearms are still around, just different than it was. Just as servitude still exists under the guise of free employment, firearm ownership exists under a "collective ownership by the state."

When those people in 150 years look back and see how horrid it was that at one time people were allowed to have actual guns in their homes! Around children! It was horrid!

It seems far fetched, but to Antis the ownership of a firearm, or even the idea of private ownership is a highly moral issue, one they feel they have the high ground on.

I have always said that I am glad slavery is gone. I find it a horrid institution. But 150 years ago it was the way things were, warts and scars and all. So when the states that were for it argue that they were being oppressed by the North, they absolutely were. Our modern morality on the subject is irrelevant just as our love of the 2nd would be irrelevant in 150 years after the repeal of the 2nd and the loss of private ownership.

Epic long post alert...here is the entire SC a succession declaration. It speaks far more of legal abuses than just a mere "we ain't liking the darkies". Modern morals aside, they felt they had a righteous and legal reason to leave the Union. Disagreeing with the institution is fine, but one has to agree that >at that time< it was valid.
