So with everything going on lately I am considering changing my self defense ammo to something like a solid penetrator like Lehigh defense has anyone else felt the urge to carry something that may be able to penetrate through a vehicle lately? Pros, cons? I could be wrong but dont feel very confident in my hornady critical defense to be effective if i needed to penetrate something.

I've been thinkin' the same!

I do agree, not really much your going to be able to do with a handgun, but if im out on the streets with my wife and kids or at some festival etc im betting i wont have any chance to grab a rifle.

Negative.
I'm no hero and I do not play one on TV.
I think hitting hard cover is a mike +10 seconds.

Agreed but if theres nowhere to run, and nothing else you can do, thats why i was curious. Seems to be most people are not worried about it.

My thought is why would you want to penetrate a vehicle. If it were me. And I may not be the the brightest bulb in the pack. But there's alot of glass I'd be shooting first if the need arose.

I did mean glass Lee. I believe that the critical defense rounds i carry are not very good at glass, sheet metal, or barriers in general. Thanks.

Windshields are hard to penetrate, side windows and doors, not so much. While the windshield may prevent, slow or deflect bullet penetration, the fragmenting glass on the other side can act as a significant distraction, not to mention imparing vision.
That said, I seem to recall some test with the 9mm 124gr. Gold Dots that's demonstrated decent auto body penetration. Not through and through, but we'll into the passenger compartment.
A gun is not a solution, it's a tool used to help solve a problem.

This is why VA State Troopers carry Sig P229s in .357 Sig. They determined that it was the best round to penetrate windshields.

Meh. I don't carry fancy specialty ammo. I stick with good old proven stuff like Gold Dots, HST, or worst case HydraShoks...

I did stand in front of a truck with a Glock 19 once prepared to shoot. Lucky for me they didn't get back to me so I could realize how dumb that idea was...

If you are carrying a round that will penetrate a car and have to shoot a person outside of the car, where is that bullet going to end up? Through 2 other people? If you have to take a shot at a car and it is not head on, why not the tires or get out of the way?

GET OUT OF THE WAY
As a civilian, I can't think of a real world situation where shooting tires will help me. As stated earlier, I'm not an action hero. I'm also not a LEO. Therefore I will have to be capable of proving in court where and why each of my fired rounds went. I have a hard time justifying a ricochet off a wheel that hits an innocent. I can justify/explain a round over penetrating or hell even worst case, me missing my target before shooting at a vehicle. My weapon is to stop the threat to life. Flat tires only slow down that threat not stop it. Slowing a vehicle or disabling one is up to the boys in blue, not me.
