I have had this 357mag round for over 20 years in my ammo storage. I have been told it is armour piercing. What is it really? Says " w-w super 357 magnum" IMG_20171019_221843.jpg IMG_20171019_221906.jpg

In the 30’s or 40’s there were some bullets with a point like that loaded to 1,400+FPS from a revolver. Law enforcement rounds for penetrating cars of the day.

At least that’s what I was told by someone a long time ago.

Dad had some of those back in the 70's. He referred to them as "armor piercing" fwiw.

Yep, metal piercing. I have a whole box of those left from back in the 1970's. We shot several of these for fun. A buddy had a '70 Chevelle that he had totaled and it was on it's top back in the woods behind his house. These things would go through the frame on that car and looked like you'd drilled the hole.

There are ammo collectors who would actually pay decent for a full box in nice shape but you gotta find them. Then ship it to them if not local. I have a partial box of the .45acp “metal piercing” rounds butbthe box is in rough shape. I tried the magnetic test and it seemed they were not steel core and I pull one to cut in half ... I tend to think it was a harder cast lead core with a much thicker copper jacket than normal with a conical shape to aid in penetrating. If you fire one at several “targets” it would not surprise me if you got a thru and thru ... and thru ... and thru if you didn’t strike bone. From a .357Mag I’d see it taking care of an aluminum engine block or such pretty easy but a cast iron would be the test I’d like to see ... depending on where it struck I could see it doing damage to one as well.

I have a full box left. The price tag is very faded but I can still make out the price, $11.85. I've always said that these things could shoot through a case of Kevlar vests. LOL
