Does anyone have a 6-32 helicoil kit they would be willing to loan? I have a troy rail that needs a new helicoil put into the hole for the tension screw.
Or if anyone is able to do it for me I could send the rail out.
Thanks
Brandon

I will check my toolbox Monday and report back. Kindly pm me to remind me. I’m in Charlotte and would be happy to help if I could.

Thanks much. I appreciate the offer if you have it. Id pay shipping back and forth if you have one for it. I’m going to double check the thread size ASAP just to make sure I’m not wrong on the sizing of the threaded hole and the screw that goes in the insert

$30 bucks is cheap for a heli coil set. I have never seen a set that small, smallest I have is M6.

HeliCoil Screw Locking Insert as standard is available in Stainless Steel AISI-304/ DTD 734 .
Metric series ranges from M2 to M39 & unified series from UNC / UNF 1-64 to 1-1/2 inch.

Hmmm...

How thick is the Troy Rail where you're planning to do the helicoil job? A helicoil might not be your best choice, if it's not thick enough to fully engage a helicoil insert.

You might be better off using a solid threaded insert, instead. Maybe modify it a bit to suit the thickness of the rail where you're installing it, then locktite it in place.

I think it will be a little too long. I need a heli coil so I can cut it down to maybe 3-5 threads before threading it into the hole.

Fastenal lists a kit for $9.49 and they show 5 stores in the Durham area so one should be somewhere near you. None of them show it as in stock but they should be able to order it for you and possibly get it in on a regular stock order. Won't hurt to call them and ask.

Lol true.
I need to call Troy again and tell them it should be covered by warranty. I’ll have to go through my emails and try to find my receipt though or I’m sure they won’t do anything

It’s not normally a screw you remove much it’s just a tension screw but it came out with the screw so there was no getting it back in. It’s not a problem with a heli coil but yes an insert would be probably better
